Can anyone help me understand re SMP (I qualify for the maximum amount been in trust for 12 years) for weeks 1-8 is it normal pay PLUS SMP? So you get more than you would normally earn??

I need to go for ctg monitoring due to altered fetal movement. One of these appointments will fall after I am 36 weeks pregnant. This might sound silly, but I just wondered if anyone could advise whether this could trigger my maternity leave, like pregnancy related sickness, in the final 4 weeks? Thanks
