If you can afford to, definitely put a little aside every month while you are still working or on full day to compensate for when you go to SMP.
@Karen yeah, we have a bit in savings but we won’t be able to save enough to cover everything completely! Husband will work over time to help! I read that you can work on a self-employed basis whilst on Mat leave?
if you’re someone who’s arts & crafty, see if you can start creating and selling what you’ve made!

Looks like you can work on a self-employed basis without it affecting your SMP according to the government website. I think I’ll probably do some babysitting on the side (already work as a nursery manager) or some short term nannying to help out financially x
There's a great Instagram page called nugget (or maybe nugget savings) that talks about maternity leave, pay, financial planning and childcare costs. Worth following. They run various courses too.
