Reflux

My LO has reflux and struggles to sleep solidly as her poor little body wakes her up to be sick. I have tried so many things to help her, including feeding upright, then keeping her upright for 30 mins. She is EBF. We tried infacol with no effect. We are on gripe water and I have cut out dairy, but it’s still happening. She’s been prescribed Gaviscon, but I’m reluctant due to many posts citing bad constipation. The osteopath also told me to try and hold off the gaviscon for a few weeks as there is a lot going on in her body during this period (she’s 7 weeks). She’s also putting on lots of weight, so it’s more about making her comfortable for me and also trying to get some more consistent sleep. I hate seeing her in distress. Is anyone else experiencing this where there baby seems so uncomfortable and squirming around because of their tummy? Any other tips to help them? With regards to gaviscon, will this help her be more comfortable and stop her tummy making her convulse? Thanks in advance

I am having the exact same experience. My baby has even started to scream when he has reflux sometimes, which makes my heart hurt. 😞 Because he was coughing/choking/vomiting after breastfeeding for 5 mins every time for the past few days, we have decided to give him expressed breast milk via a bottle. It’s specifically the Philips Avent Natural response teat size 2. He hated this teat before as the flow is so slow but he has been doing much better in the past 24h. It takes him 1h to finish his 100mls and we burp him several times. He has slept well this morning 🙏🏼 If he is having reflux when I put him down I pick him up and have him sleep upright for a bit. I hope this helps x

Hey girl. First of all you are not alone with this, there’s many of us going through it and I’m one of them. I know how hard it is and how mentally draining it can be thinking of things to help them. Unfortunately I think it is one of those things we have to ride out until their little digestive system is more mature. We tried gaviscon and it constipated my little one and she is 6 weeks today. Then the reflux got worse and we were noticing the pain she was in when the acid was coming up so we have been back and forth to the hospital and the doctors At the moment we are on omeprezole for her. It takes a few weeks to get into their system to start working properly and there are lots of side effects the first few weeks - ours seem to be more wind which is painful and also insomnia and jerky movements for a period of time in the day. But I do think it’s helping the acid. We were also told by the hospital we can give her calpol to help with the pain

But I would check with a medical professional about calpol first because of her age. Also trying to get to the root cause of the reflux, the hospital told us it was over feeding but we have reduce feeds and it’s still happening. I can see you’ve been to an osteopath which we have to I’m not sure it’s made any difference. Have you looked into tongue tie aswell as this could mean they are not latching on properly causing more wind into the tummy causing the reflux. We are the same we have tried everything including different milks teats dummies infacol baby drops all sorts and nothing seems to make her more comfortable. It’s heart breaking and traumatising to see them in pain and also not to mention the lack of sleep for baby and yourself massively takes it toll. We have to remember it’s temporary and it’s not forever this phase will pass. Feel free on those long nights where you can’t put her down because of the sickness to drop a message so you know you’re not alone x
