CMPA or reflux?

Long post sorry in advance! My little boy is 4 weeks old 1 month exactly yesterday. 2 weeks ago GP prescribed us gaviscon for reflux it helped at first but now his symptoms are so much worse. Sick after feeding, screaming in between feeds and fussing at the bottle, mucus in stools, arching his back and going stiff and refusing feeds and coming out in spots as soon as he has milk. GP sent us to paeds today and they said they THINK it’s cmpa but want to cut his feeds down first to see if it’s overfeeding (lol?) so told me to give 3oz but tonight he’s looking for more. Just feel like no one is listening to me😭 so hard seeing my boy in pain. Anyone had similar? ☹️

Sounds like cmpa. How much is ur baby drinking. Ud have to be giving him a lot to over feed him, how many ounces does he get a day? My baby had mucus in his poos and rash that flares up after feeding. I would fight it u no in ur gut if ur over feeding him vomiting can be from over feeding but rash and mucus isn't, trust ur gut. GPs r useless skip them and go straight to hospital

Look at seeing a cranial osteopath. Baby might be suffering from colic actually caused by birth trauma coming down the birth canal.

Definitely sounds like CMPA my baby has been diagnosed a week ago and the biggest red flag (according to our Dr) is the mucus! Bizzare that they suggested it may be over feeding, we’re now on Aptamil Pepti 1 which you can also buy but you could ask that they give you a prescription or a second opinion asap as you’re not comfortable with cutting feeds - I was also told the mucus could take 6 weeks to clear up which is sad as they have to ride it out and you don’t want to keep pushing it longer😢 it’s really frustrating that CMPA in babies is pushed to the side so much!

I also got told I’m over feeding, and to cut down feeds. I tried but my little boy was screaming for more milk! He’s a big baby but on the 75th centile. I’m not listening to the advice anymore and will continue to feed him if he is hungry rather than him be upset x

Sometimes we can confuse hunger cues for soothing cues. When my boy looks like he’s rooting after a good feed, I know 100% he’s not hungry. He’s most likely having a bit of tummy pain digesting his standard sized feed, so I dunk his dummy in some gripe water and let him suckle on that. He always then stops squirming around and falls asleep zz

I would try and go dairy free. Pept-1 or neogate (as pept still has milk it's just processed different) Have a word with your health visitor and see which one she recommends she can send a note to your GP to get it prescribed.

Thank you all for your comments went back today and GP said definitely seems like CMPA and prescribed us some milk so fingers crossed this one works for him xx

@Amy the doctors said back in 2022 my little boy might have CMPA, but I took him to see a cranial osteopath and he was in fact actually suffering with birth trauma and he done a few treatments with him and then after a few days all his symptoms disappeared and he is now 2yrs old and has no issues with cows milk.
