Breech baby!

I’ve just had my 36 week growth scan and to my surprise baby is extended leg breech - he was head down at my 32 week growth scan and since then midwives have assumed he’s still head down but turns out what they’ve been feeling is his bum 🫣 I have a consultant appointment on Monday to talk about my options but it would be good to hear about other’s experiences with breech babies. My previous birth was a vaginal delivery and all very straight forward so it would also be good to hear from those of you who had an elective C-section even if baby wasn’t breech because if I’m honest I’ve never done any research into it as it’s never been part of my plan!

Hey, just to say I’m in the same boat! I’m 37 weeks and my baby has been extended breech all along. I saw my consultant yesterday and we agreed I’d have an elective section at 39 weeks. Not what I imagined but I’m fine with it. They may offer you an ECV to turn baby. I’ve spoken to friends who have had elective sections & generally the feedback is positive but the recovery being quite tough 👶🏻

They usually offer an EVC around 37/38 weeks (this is only in some circumstances though/some breech positions) the success rates are about 50% Elective sections are usually booked in the 39th week, breech or not, you’ll have a pre op and an appointment with the consultant who will go over all the details, but the short version is that you either get a morning or afternoon slot, this can change with emergencies coming in etc so can be a waiting game but for me I went down bang on time, everything is really calm in the room and everyone is really friendly and supportive, baby is out in about 10 minutes it’s super quick, then they stitch you up and take you to the recovery bay for skin to skin etc, the recovery is ok keep up with painkillers after a few days you’ll start to get back to your normal self xxx

Hey! My baby was breech until 36 weeks - I tried Moxibustion - it’s a Chinese Medicine and she turned on her own! Have a read into it, I was hesitant but my midwife recommended it! Moxibustion has a high success rate for turning them! Good Luck! Xxx

My baby girl was footling breech the whole time, poor love never had a chance at spinning but I was fine with that. I had an elective section at 37 weeks because she wasn’t growing and honestly it was a really decent experience! The surgery teams are lovely and the midwives are so helpful with your recovery. Granted you are going to be in a lot of pain but if you keep on top of your meds it’s manageable. I won’t lie, I had a bit of a cry on my first day home just because I was getting so frustrated having to rely on my husband and family for getting me normal things that I could usually jump up and grab, but that was just adjusting to a new norm for a week or two and then you’ll start feeling yourself! If you want more details on the section itself feel free to message me, happy to talk you through it x

My first turned around 37wks... they might still turn. 🤞
