Just diagnosed

Hey I’m from the uk and my baby is 3 weeks old. We got diagnosed yesterday with this. Baby is mainly breastfed but had a bottle on an evening and it seems he cries/ is frustrated with this. We was told cos he is gaining weight and feeding we won’t need anything. But I just want to know if anyone has any experience from a uk perspective if there is anything I should be asking for? Also when I do switch to formula as I don’t want to breastfeed forever did Anyone have any issues with this? Or any tips on how to do this? We wasn’t told if it was mild or moderate tbh. Just told he would grow out of it. Any tips welcome I’m a first time mum and this is so scary 😧

I'm in Australia but we found the swap to the bottle was better because we could feed him upright and there was less reflux issues from the laryngomalcia. Maybe try a slower teat? We are now 4.5 months old and the squeak has pretty much gone. We were also in the gaining weight and feeding bucket. So they didnt do anything but manage the reflux

He seems to hate the bottle tbh it takes my partner like 2 hours to get him to have one even with BM. ATM his reflux isn’t too bad just occasionally abit of sick but he is on medication for oral thrush but I’ll keep an eye on it. Have you been recommended anything for sleep like other positions etc? The noises are super scary I’m glad we know jst it is atleast!!xx

He does tend to choke too, sometimes when feeding other times just randomly has anyone got any tips on that?

We didn't wouldnt have even said he had reflux but the ENTs we spoke to (public and private system) both said reflux usually comes hand in hand with laryngomalcia. No :( they are so big on sleeping on the back in Australia! We just had to get used to the sounds. In the end, it was when he was silent in the crib we worried 😂 once he learnt to roll he now sleeps on his belly, Just listen to your gut and get a second opinion if you are still concerned x mum instinct is something else!

Yeah I think I’m gona call the docs and ask for more support cos we have been told to treat him as a normal baby by the doc at the hospital! Then u read stuff and worry! Thanks for replying tho! It sounds like your baby is doing well which is great! I think I’ll speak about the reflux to the doc. And I want him being weighed regularly to ensure he is doing well with feeding etc xxx

I did take him to the community nurse to get weighed weekly until 3 months old so I knew he was gaining weight x but also don't stress if some weeks bub doesn't gain as much as others weeks. It was up and down for us sometimes. Good luck!!

Thanks hun! Yes i think I’ll be doing that just to make sure! Thanks for replying to me xxx

Heyy i totally understand what you are going through and just thinking about what i went through in the first three months gives me PTSD…. But my LO had mild laryngomalacia and now he is 9 months and it seems non existent. We got a scope done at 3 months and they ruled it as mild . His reflux was bad though, had to put him on meds but now its non existent. His formula was the biggest issue but we finally found one that suited him… the only thing was he never slept well especially on his back. So we do contact naps during daytime mostly and night time he can roll over and all so he prefers to sleep on his side or back.. i promise you it gets better, it will seem scary but it gets better Mama. Im from the US but feel free to message me if you need anything.. also there is a great facebook group for this which is super active 🫶🏼
