‘Sleep when the baby sleeps’

Does anyone actually sleep in the day at all to catch up on some sleep? Everyone always telling me to sleep when the baby sleeps but that’s when I do the things I can’t do when I’m attending to her or that’s when I sit down for a bit to eat or whatever so I can’t ever nap in the day even though I’m only getting about 5 hours of constantly interrupted sleep at night! How is everyone else coping with the lack of sleep? Any tips? Even if I wanted to have a nap in the day, I can’t seem to shut my mind off and I really struggle to get to sleep and by the time I would fall asleep, baby wakes up wanting a feed 😂

I sleep in the first stretch of the morning when the baby sleeps so we do bed at 10/11 baby has his last bottle of the “day” then he usually wakes at 2am, 5am & 7am and from 7am he’ll go back to sleep at 8/9am until 11:30 am and in that time I’ll take a nap with him xx

My baby only sleeps on me or in the carrier so that’s just not a thing 🤣

I'm the same. To be honest I think you just adapt to having less sleep for a while and hopefully your little one will sleep for longer stretches soon. My only tip is to get late to maximise possible sleep for you.

I sometimes get an hour in the afternoon and have chosen nap over food few times lol but morning when she sleeps I usually wash bottles, load washing machine have a cuppa lol feel like I should do more housework but so tired

I just try to sleep during her longest stretch of the night which is usually after her last bottle of the day and then do her feed whenever she wakes up in the night. Was lucky last night because that stretch was 5 whole hours and could’ve been longer but I woke her for a feed because there were weight concerns which we’ve gotten the all clear for from our health visitor today xx

I sleep in late mornings when baby girl sleeps so today for example she had her bottle at half 10 and went back to sleep About 11:30/12pm so I managed to get some sleep and we both woke up at 2:15 for her next feed. I sometimes wait until my partner gets home from work about 3pm to take over with baby and I go back to bed for a few hours. Xx

I have a toddler so I haven’t slept in the day at all 🥲 I am hoping to get them on the same nap time when my toddler goes down so I can get some sleep myself

With my first one I'd sleep in the day with her. She'd also be nice enough usually that I would have managed to eat while she was awake. With this one I am getting less sleep in the night but have my firstborn to look out for in the day so no sleep here 😅

It drives me crazy when people say “sleep when the baby sleeps”. It’s impossible when you’ve got a house to run! My washing machine is constantly on since having my baby! Not to mention cooking, cleaning, steralising, and I’m pumping as well so I have to do that whilst baby is asleep and I also have to eat in between. If anyone has any tips to do all that and get a nap in, then PLEASE help a momma out! I’m exhausted 😂😩🙈

Nope 😅 Something in my brain won't allow me to, no matter how tired I am.

I do try and get a “wink” even if that means a 10 min nap - which feels like a whole night 😜

We are doing mostly contact naps plus I do all the washing and sterilising bottles when he naps elsewhere. I can’t sleep in for the morning as I have to take my eldest to school and then pick him up from school at 3pm so no rest after then either. However if baby goes sleep at like 7-8pm. I go to bed too at that time to get the extra shut eye.

Yeah I do try to get at least 1 nap per day when he sleeps. This is my second baby though, I didn’t sleep when my first baby slept as it was a lot more chaotic like I wasn’t on top of the housework as much and stuff. This time it’s smoother sailing so I don’t have as much to do while he is asleep

If I try and nap in the day it just completely throws me off and I crash and burn

First week yes- but I was also recovering from c section. After that no. I have too much to do

It’s so hard tbh only people that don’t know what they’re talking about says this!!

Nope! My 4 week old only sleeps if he’s on me or in the sling so impossible to nap in the day. At night he goes for maybe 1-1.5 hours sleeping in the cot but then wakes so it’s a very broken night. Only time I can nap is if I have a visitor who can hold him whilst I go to bed. It’s hard I feel you but hoping it will get easier when he’s older!
