Combo feeding?

Am 4 weeks pp and don’t think I’ll ever produce enough for my LO. Anyone else struggling to continue as they are not producing enough? Feel like a failure x 2 as breast feeding didn’t work out and am still having to feed formula. Thank you

I struggled with my supply when my little one was born constantly stressed about wether I’d make enough for her! It’s still super early days for you so if it’s something you want to continue try to stay strong things that helped my increase my supple were things like power pumping and drinking electrolytes. Making sure in the early days your pumping super often should be between 8-12 times a day as often as baby would feed and not missing the night pumps it’s really hard to pump and your trying your hardest don’t be hard on yourself as long as your baby is getting fed that’s what matters.

@Georgia thank you so much, I definitely want to keep going. Just been letting things get on top of me x

It’s really hard in the early days with emotions running high anyway and it’s so tiring but it does get easier even if you can’t see it now! I’m 7 months pp and pump 3 times a day with a bit of an over supply. It’s not without its struggles but so worth it in my eyes.

I was never really able to breastfeed effectively and my initial milk supply was very low and didn’t go up until after the first month. At 4 weeks there’s still a ton of things you could try if you have the goal of increasing your supply. But they take a lot of effort and time, and it is also totally valid if you choose to spend that time and effort in other ways with your child. There is way too much pressure put on new mothers surrounding feeding and feeding the “correct” way- but in the beginning I think it can feel like feeding is the only thing that defines motherhood and the only way to show up for your little one. You’ll see when they start to smile at you in a few weeks, that your role as their mother is so much more than just being their feeding source. Making them feel loved and cared for, promoting their health/growth, etc will involve so much more than just feeding. Also babies are getting the best of both worlds with the milk and formula combo! You’re doing great mama♥️

Hey I just wanted to encourage you to not give up. initially i struggled too with my supply and my LO lost a lot of weight . I combo fed for a week , then transitioned to breast milk only during the day and combo at night while trying to increase my supply. Eventually I was able to meet my babies demands and now I even make more than she drinks. I just was consistent with the times I pumped. I couldnt do the pumping every two hours as it just tanked my supply and was a lot mentally . so I do every 3 hrs instead ( I pump 5 times a day ) I skip the MOTN and it works for me I have always done this since I had my baby because I needed that rest. instead I pump between 20-30 minutes every 3 hrs depending on the pump i use (20 for motif 30 for mom cozy v2 My baby is currently 10 weeks and I pump anywhere from 30- 37oz a day. So dont give up just try to figure out what schedule works for you and stay hydrated. Try not to stress much as it can affect supply too. As long as shes fed

I'm struggling too 5 weeks pp today. Trying to power pump and stay hydrated to increase supply but it's not making difference. My nipples are also swollen and sore so pumping often now hurts when it didn't before. I want to keep going but at the same time also just want to give up. Brought expensive wireless pumps so I could go out and do things whilst pumping as my electric wired one meant I was stuck to the sofa so I also want to get my monies worth also fighting the guilt of failed at breastfeeding as LO never latched and I felt better knowing I could pump milk.

@Freda this gives me so hope, I combo feed at night now as I don't have a big enough supply any more, I went to pumping every 2hrs and MOTN pump but I feel like it's not increasing my supply but reducing it. I will try going back to 3-4hrs pumping and ensuring I hydrate enough and just be consistent with my pumping times (how it was to start with when I had an oversupply). My LO increased his feed amount so I tried to increase my supply but all that's happen is my supply tanking I no longer even get engorged breasts. (Never thought I'd miss those!)

I remember in the beginning I worried I wouldn't produce enough. Then I learned they only need 1 to 1.5oz an hour going to 3 hours and saw I actually just made enough. You're not a failure, they're fed and that's all that matters. I remember feeling a failure because my nipples are flat, so my baby couldn't latch onto me.

Hey I just wanted to let you know that I was in the same boat 4 weeks pp and was combo feeding. I was told that any amount of breast milk is good for them which makes sense as some babies drink less and others drink more so as long as they get some breast milk. I planned to combo feed the whole way but slowly my supply was increasing (without me realising) then at around the 3 month mark I ended up with all bottles being breast milk and only 1 formula per day and then by 3.5 months baby was exclusively breastfed! So please don’t feel like a failure, your baby is still getting breast milk and gradually your supply will increase and babies intake of breast milk will increase too x

Also try power pumping once a day (I used to do it as my morning pump) and within a week a saw a difference xx
