Long contraction

I woke up at 1:45am last night from an intense contraction. It lasted about 3 minutes which was weird, considering I read they’re supposed to last 30 second to a minute. Has anyone felt a long one before? I had no more painful ones after that either.

Yes mine were 2-5 minutes

@Victoria Aguilar how soon after did you give birth?

I've been having those since 33w5d i didn't go into active labor till 36w6d

I wish things were explained better to us as mothers. Instead of this crazy guessing game we all get to play lol. From my prior pregnancies and personal research: Average labor contractions are between 20-60 seconds on average which means some can be shorter and some could be longer. Braxton hicks (which can absolutely be uncomfortable/mildly painful even though they are portrayed to never hurt) can last from 30 to 120 seconds on average and closer to labor can be much more intense. My OB explained this time around that the only difference between them and a true labor contraction is if they cause dilation or not really.

@Aubry interesting! Good to know. thank you!
