Do I need a double buggy?

Just wondering views on how essential a double buggy is? Newborn arrives in January and just wondering if I can get away with baby wearing, or toddler using a buggy step? Or am I being unrealistic?

You could probably get away with not having a double and when toddler needs a break just baby wearing. It kinda depends your toddlers sleep needs and on how baby takes to babywearing though, if they don't like it/won't sleep in a wrap you may struggle but I think most babies do.

I have a 2 year old and 5 month old, I tried to get away with not having a double but it just didn’t work, I’d not go out as much as my toddler wouldn’t walk and was effort to put my baby in the carrier everytime especially after she’d had a feed or was sleeping.. double buggy was a game changer x

My boy turned two yesterday and I’m due again in 3 weeks and we are trying a buggy Board for now. He loves a bike and stuff so 🤞🏼 If it fails then I will just get a cheapish double pushchair but want to avoid if possible.

Due at the same time and I was thinking I’ll decide in Jan, just getting a little step that attaches and baby wear. But I’ve had a few stressful days out with a very determined toddler and can’t imagine not having a double buggy in just 3 months so I’m going to buy a cheap one

I think if I’m wearing the new baby a lot, my daughter might want to be held too and it might cause a bit of drama so thinking of that too

There’s 2.5 years between my girls and when the youngest was born we managed just with the buggy board :)

I had my second in August when September 22 baby was 23 months… we’ve not had a double pram and he walks everywhere with us or if we’re going somewhere longer will go on his scooter. He’s not been in a pram since April when we went to Chessington world of adventures though, and even then he wanted to walk mainly x

Thanks everyone. Good to hear different perspectives from people who have experience in it. LO doesn’t use a scooter or anything yet (she is very little for her age) and does still seem to like the buggy. But I think I’ll hold off spending money until the time comes and pull the trigger with a second hand one if we really need then.

@Jess good luck with your new arrival!

Thanks, you too! X

i've just had my baby and we got a double pram. we've barely had them both in at the same time (tbf baby is only 2 weeks old so havent been out loads yet), but i like having the knowledge that if i need to breastfeed my newborn, i can just strap my toddler into the pram so she can't run away, which she definitely would😅

@keisha yes having that peace of mind is quite important!

@Heather-Jayde it will be a similar age gap. Great to hear you have managed without and keen to try and experiment a bit with a buggy board too. Will have to play it by ear a bit I reckon

I think if you already have a pram, go for a buggy board to start, if you think you need the double you can get it later, rather than buying the double then not needing it! At least a buggy board only sets you back £10!

I’d personally say double buggy. I have a 2 year old and a 5month old. Personally my 2 year old will walk then give up and want to be carried. If you end up wanting a double buggy I have a bugaboo donkey for sale (Essex). Or if your looking brand new a puggle urban is perfect it’s amazing as a pushchair you can also add a carrycot onto it aswell ( the nursery store) has a massive basket which is an ideal.
