Getting induced without a medical reasonšŸ¤”

So I am 35 weeks 36 on Monday and my OB wants to do a sweep on my 38th week and if that doesnā€™t work, he wants to schedule me for an induction on my 39th week. Iā€™m not 100% comfortable with the situation because I believe the baby should come whenever baby is ready, if I go past 41 weeks then I could understand, thatā€™s not even the case yet. I spoke to my Doula and she agrees on how I feel. Dr seems to feel like youā€™re making their jobs harder when you disagree with them which I donā€™t give 2 rats ass. should I just ignore them and just let my body do its thing?

Ummm sounds like he just wants money. If there is no medical reason I would 100% decline. Let baby come when baby wants to come

You can politely decline

You can impolitely decline as well. Totally unnecessary interventions

39 weeks is totally understandable to get induced. How is your baby measuring? My doctor offered induction on my first pregnancy and it went very smoothly. Everything was well planned and we were prepared since we knew the date. With that said tho momma, itā€™s totally up to you.

@Dee you could (I wouldnā€™t) make the argument itā€™s a reasonable suggestion to induce at 39 weeks without medical reason but it is absolutely not reasonable to pressure anyone into it.

If you donā€™t mind me asking, why are you doing a sweep on the 38th week appointment? I havenā€™t spoken to my doctors about that and I donā€™t know if they have to do that either? Is that something most doctors do?

I couldnā€™t agree more ladies. I donā€™t understand why the pressure when mom and baby is very healthy smh @Dee baby weights almost 6pounds as of Wednesday 46 percentile which is super great weā€™re smacked right in the middle.

Whatā€™s babies weight? It depends on that too!

@Laurel actually, some doctors may recommend induction at 39 weeks (if itā€™s their 1st pregnancy) to reduce cesarean birth. With that said though, considering her baby weight is within the normal range I donā€™t see why theyā€™d induce at 39 unless there are other health risks. Absolutely no one should be pressured into a medical procedure they arenā€™t comfortable having. I was just sharing my experience. šŸ˜‡ @RominašŸ‡ØšŸ‡» congratulations girl and do what you feel is right for you! šŸ«¶šŸ’—

@Dee like I said, you *could* make the argument. I wouldnā€™t.

@Morgan thatā€™s what Iā€™m guessing it is, back when I had my first in 07 none of this bullshit was a thing. With my second last year the midwife at my ob office kept asking me about getting one the moment I hit 37 weeks and it was super annoying because I kept telling her I wasnā€™t comfortable with forcing the baby out. šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

If you want to decline then decline!
