If my first child was born premature does that mean it's more likely if I have another they will be prem too?

One of my friends had her first baby very early. (Before 30 weeks) This wasn't due to placental abruption but she's since had a second baby who came full term. Both children are happy, healthy and thriving and you'd never know her first was premature 😊 I know it's a different health concern but just because you have one premature baby, doesn't necessarily mean your next will be

I don't know if this helps you. In March 2022, my waters broke at 22 weeks.... i was kept at the hospital till I caught an infection at 24 weeks .... I was induced and gave birth. My son is now 2.5yrs old.... Last year, I fell pregnant, and I was monitored weekly from 16 weeks. At 21, they saw my cervix opening, and I had a cervical stitch put in, At 37 weeks, when they removed stitch , I then gave birth at 39wks , with monitoring continuously till 34wks. I know it's not the same situation, however docs can do marvellous things now ! X

I hope this helps. In 2023, I had my son at 28 weeks, due to my water breaking at 27 weeks. This time, I was informed that due to my history of preterm labor, I will have a cerclage at 13 weeks. However, that didn't happen until I went for a routine visit to my MFM at 24 weeks, and they saw that there was no cervix on sighted. I was admitted immediately, and an emergency cerclage was placed. I am now a little over 28 weeks.

My first was born 32 weeks. Second 41 weeks! They're keeping an eye on my pregnancy this time round and giving cervical scans to ensure everything is as it should be. There's just no knowing x

I just had my first baby 7 weeks ago. He is perfectly healthy and thriving now, but he had FGR and was born way smaller than they thought. I was told I had an anterior placenta (in the front so it could block the cervix as birth approaches). But other than that I was completely fine, low risk until 32 weeks when I developed hypertension. I got blood work every week to monitor and had an ultrasound at 35 and 38 weeks; they induced me at 38 weeks because of my son’s FGR. After birth, they tested my placenta and found out I had placental insufficiency which is why his growth was restricted. I just had my 6 week pp check up and my doc said I have increased risk for similar patterns during next pregnancies, but now they will just monitor more closely. Just keep advocating for yourself. Make the doctor listen to your concerns.

My first was born at 28 weeks for unknown reasons and my consultant said during my debrief that future pregnancies she would estimate I would be 20% more likely than your average mum to go into preterm labour… My second was born at 37 weeks so full term 🤷🏻‍♀️
