Colostrum

Any advice on how/if you can harvest colostrum before baby arrives, if you are having a C Section? I’ve read so many times it can induce labour and do not want to go into labour before the due date. Thanks!

There is no evidence that it induces labour, this is a bit of a misunderstanding of the research. The biggest study we have says that when women over 36 weeks hand express then it is safe (as in doesn't induce labour) and this somehow gets turned around. The study was called the DAME trial if you want to look into it. I've been pumping for the last week to try and induce labour before I get to my c section date but nothing's happening 😆

I collected colostrum for a month before baby was due and she was still 2 days late lol. You can get colostrum kits online, I got mine from amazon. My midwife also gave me a couple of syringes a month before my due date. There are some helpful videos on YouTube that show you how to do it properly You'll be fine 😊 x

I pumped every night from 37wks onwards and I was still induced with him at 40wks

i just hand expressed into a little bowl and used a syringe then dated them and froze them. i also had a planned c section and starting harvesting 1 month before and didn’t go into labour
