Engaged ?

I had 36w midwife appt today and on my badger notes it says 4/5 engaged (previous appt it says ‘not engaged’) I would’ve thought 4/5 engaged means almost entirely engaged. But from Google it says 4/5 is barely engaged while 1/5 is almost completely engaged Is this right? Cheers !

It depends which way they're measuring. Usually 4/5 engaged means only a small part of the head can be felt above the pelvic brim Whereas 4/5 palpable means most of the head can be felt above the brim. Different places have different policies for how they measure and document.

@Charley ah right, that’s annoying! I can’t tell which mine is then. Hopefully he’s mostly engaged lol. Thank you!

@Charley so if they’re engaged , can the midwife not really feel the head anymore ? (If you know the answer to that) Because at my appt today she did say yep I can feel the head and she tried to show me and said ‘can you feel that large ball between your hands?’ (I couldn’t really , but she tried ha)

If they're fully engaged then there won't be any head left to feel above the pelvic brim, they'll be really down low. She might have been showing you just the little bit of head that was still above the brim? Its really tricky to know!

I was confused too when I looked online, my midwife keeps saying 5/5 as in fully engaged! X

My badger notes is completely blank about all that…. The whole table on antenatal care summary is blank 🙄
