Induced a week before due date

Have any moms on here been induced a week before your due date due to low birth weight? I’m curious to know if you decided to wait it out and let labor happen naturally or went ahead with induction. no other issues besides being on the lower side of weight everything else looks good .

I was induced at 38 weeks because of hypertension/mild preeclampsia and my son had fetal growth restriction due to my placental insufficiency that the doctors missed most of my pregnancy. I chose to deliver early so my son could be monitored closely. He struggled in the first few days with retaining his glucose levels, but other than that he is perfect. He was 5lb11oz at birth and is now thriving. I wanted a natural birth, no C-section, unmedicated. Ended up vaginal birth, induced with epidural at 5 centimeters. If I had waited much longer, they would have done a C-section because baby started to be in distress. I don’t regret it. Do what feels right for you and baby.

my drs wanted to induce due to my baby’s measurements being small. i had regular growth scans my whole pregnancy, never found anything wrong she was just small. i declined induction and had her naturally at 40+5. she was 6.14lbs, 2 pounds heavier than the scans said she’d be. if there’s no other reason i wouldn’t do it, babies will come when they are ready

@Izzie how many weeks were you when they wanted to induce you ?

40

I was induced the day before my due date. I low pap A in my placenta which heightens the risk of still birth if I were to have gone past my due date. My body was pretty much ready to go. I was 4cm dilated when I arrived to the hospital. It was a 2.5 hour labour. That’s pretty abnormal though. One of my friends was induced a week early (39 weeks) for low birth weight. She was a tiny baby. They tried all the different ways to induce and her body wasn’t budging. She ended up having a c section. She wasn’t disappointed with it. She was happy with her baby arriving safely and they managed well. Her daughter is now 3 years old. A beautiful little girl. I am now 35 weeks pregnant. My next scan will determine whether I will be induced next week or the next 3 weeks after that. I have gestational diabetes. If she isn’t growing she will be coming out sooner. If she is getting too big they could do it sooner too. Though said to my midwife that I don’t care is she is big the goal is 39 weeks.

I waited. IUGR is no longer a valid medical reason for induction if baby is fine, it’s an elective type of induction. Scans can also be off. I wouldn’t induce and wait for labor to start

They use every excuse to induce I swear, low both weight. Baby too big. Heart rate drop. My first was born at 5”4 and no one said anything about her being small and no I was not induced nor did anyone mention it, she came on her own 8 days earlier than her due date which was like 38w6d I think. Lots of babies lose anywhere from 8-12% of their birth weight when born so it makes sense to me to leave them in there as long as possible so they can fully grow, can thrive and gain weight at their full potential before they are born and immediately lose some of that? Unless the placenta has fully failed then yeah get the baby out asap but I’m sure that’s rare.

I actually had the same question. I'm 37 weeks and 5 days. I've been having my doc asking if I wanted to get induced since last week. I keep telling her "no, I want him to come when he is ready." She seems to not be satisfied with my answers. She also mentioned last week about having AFI being 6.7 but she found more pockets of AFI but didn't want to count them because "they were inconclusive" for her to count.. so I'm think I have more AFI then she is saying and just trying to get me to get induced.

@Kellie I feel the same way , I switched doctors due to moving but at my previous doc my baby was measuring perfect at 35 weeks he started measuring smaller due to him dropping into my pelvic and the way this doctor office works is I’ve seen a new doctor each visit and none of the other ones have been concerned so it was just so stressful thinking I didn’t have an option at first but my due date is literally a week away so I just feel like waiting for labor to happen naturally would be best for us

@Monica i literally felt like she was trying to force me to go after I said no as well , the doctor at L&D at the hospital even called me trying to get me to change my mind after i already told them no at my appointment.im not sure why they press the issue so much after you tell them no but who knows .i just feel like my son has been fine up until a week before my due date so why induce me now? Makes no sense

@Jay if none of the other Drs aren’t concerned then there’s your “second opinion”. Do lots of research to know the pros and cons but also trust your gut.
