St Mary’s Oxford Road

Can anyone who gave birth at St Mary’s Oxford road share their experience please? I am worried with all the units requiring improvements with the recent reports. Also did you get your own room after delivery or were you put straight back on the ward? Thank you! 🫶🏼

I had a wonderful experience!!! I didn’t get my own room, it was straight back to the ward tho but their care was awesome.

Yesss their care was next level I genuinely had such a pleasant time. Although that said, I was induced after going in for reduced movements but they didn't scan me or check me or baby or anything of the sort before making me feel pressured to get induced because apprantly placenta was dying out. I regret falling into their advice without requesting them to run some tests because how could they have known that? Anyway the induction, labour and post birth experience was all amazing nonetheless. Once I got my induction process started I felt heard and paid attention to whenever I raised concerns.

I found the care I received was wonderful. Antenatal care was good, I used triage a number of times and they were always lovely and reassuring. Every single part of my birth plan went to hell, I had a difficult labour and challenges with reduced growth, requiring a hormonal drip, epidural and then a challenge with pushing (drs wanted to intervene and midwives advocated for me amazingly so I could do so independently). Everyone involved in care was very clear at explaining risks and benefits of different options and supported me and later my husband, when I couldn't, to make decisions. Postnatal was supportive, esp for help with starting breastfeeding. (Birth partners could/possibly can stay 24/7 which was comforting as a first time mother). It was on a ward however, not a separate room - the only issue we had was a partner staying over who was playing awful "Andrew tate" esq manifestos as to how a woman should act but the midwives were quick at stopping. The duty of care was great.

My experience was excellent too. Antenatal was brilliant I used triage a number of times. Due to reduced movements and often he would start moving as so as I was on a monitor but they always reinforced how important it was to go in to get checked. Birth was not as planned; I went in as my water broke at around 35 weeks; I was on a ward for nearly a week, they took such good care of me, kept me updated and ran tests each day. They monitored baby regularly too. The midwives were all so kind. I was then induced at 36+3 but me and baby were both unwell so halfway though had to have an emergency section. I was terrified but the team were amazing and my section was honestly such a great experience the team were wonderful and even checked on me the next day. I was given my own room after birth as my baby was in NICU again the care was amazing and he was fighting fit and we were then home within the week. Also used triage after birth again they were brilliant.

I can’t recommend them more! Lovely experience everyone is so caring!

Excellent experience! Had a planned CS. The team were amazing and reassuring. Postnatal was absolutely supportive and helped beautifully. Everything went fine and was happy to be home the next day. Of course after every test was done and all feedbacks were brilliant! I was put straight back to ward too but nothing to worry about.

Forgot to mention for both my babies. With the latest one in June this year.

I think I had great care! I gave birth in September this year, had to be induced. I was placed on a ward for my induction which they did was was unusual but they were unexpectedly busy with no private rooms and they apologised a lot for it. Luckily I didn’t mind at all. When I went to delivery I was in a private room, again the care there was amazing. The midwives were so lovely and made me feel valued and listened to. I then had to have an emergency C-section which was scary but the doctors, nurses, midwives all checked on me and made sure to talk me through everything. The hardest/worst part for me would have been in recovery cause I literally couldn’t move, I had the shakes, I was still numb and my partner had to do everything on his own. You only spend 30 mins to an hour in recovery then you go straight back to the ward. Again the care there was amazing, the midwives were so nice and helpful and wasn’t bothered by you ringing the bell no matter how many times you did

Thank you all SO much for sharing your stories and it’s great to hear the care was amazing, even with birth plans not going as planned. You’re the best ladies 🫶🏼

I had such a positive labour there July this year, my midwives were honestly amazing, I felt so looked after by them and the whole team who pop in each hour to make sure you’re okay. I went in at 3am, was seen within 15 mins, and had my own room straight after, I also felt looked after afterwards as well, my partner could stay on the ward (not sure if this is always the case or depends on how busy it is etc?), and you can call for help if you need pain relief or help with breastfeeding or have any questions etc. Couldn’t recommend them more!

I was induced, I had my own room for start to finish and we had to stay the night after he was born for monitoring! The midwife who worked with me was AMAZING! Calming and reassuring but also gave me plenty of space. Couldn’t recommend them anymore! However I do think I was lucky to have my own room the entire time as there was a ward but I got lucky! Hope all goes well for you and babe! 🫶🏽

st mary’s oxford road and wythenshaw are linked so depending on how you want to birth id look at both options i personally had a water birth at wythenshaw, i had a birth centre room which had a light tube, bed and birthing pool as well as other balls and birthing aids, after i gave birth i stayed in this room for 6h while waiting for my baby to have her 6h check and then i got discharged and was sent home - not sure what happens if you stay in x
