Induced at 36 weeks

Hey everyone! I am being induced at 36 weeks due to rhesus incompatibility- I don’t know a huge amount about the induction process but would like to learn what to kind of expect before I go in next week! Could anyone run me through the process & what it was like for you? New terms keep popping up for me like cervical ripening - is that part of the induction or something that happens before you can be induced? If so how long could that take before you’re actually induced?! Curious to hear from everyone but if anyone was induced around 36 weeks would love to know how long it took for you! I have heard hours to almost a week!

I was induced at 38wks They use methods to ripen your cervix - get it soft and open ready so they can break your waters. They did this with me with the balloon method- not all trusts use this, its quite new i believe. It didn't work for me though. It's supposed to fall out when you're dilated enough, mine fell out anyway so don't think it was inserted properly. 24hrs after balloon they used pessaries (hormone tablet inserted at cervix) - they wait 6hrs and then check you're dilated enough to break waters. If it hasnt theyll do more pessaries (max4) if they dont work its seen as a failed induction, and they then recommend csection (ive heard this is rare though) It took 3pessaries for me. Once I was dilated enough they broke my waters and contractions straight away got stronger. I'd had mild ones since inserting the balloon but they kicked in...

...they then put me on the hormone drip (pitocin) I'd be lying if I said it wasn't brutal. But don't let stories scare you, I did find it manageable on just gas&air alone. I had the balloon inserted Wednesday afternoon - broke waters 1am Saturday. It was a long process, and I felt pretty exhausted going into labour. By 3pm I was 9cm I was pushing for quite a long time, due to his head facing the wrong way making it harder to get him out, plus how tired I was I ended up with a forceps delivery and he was born at 23:30. They say induction usually takes 3-5days. My tips would be to sleep when you can. Even though I ended with interventions (higher chance with induction), I still found it magical and would do it again. I was first time mam and my body did not feel ready for a baby which I believe is why it took so long to be dilated enough for my waters to break. Good luck!

Woweee that sounds intense! But thank you so much for this information and I hope you and the lil one are doing amazing! ❤️ I am really hopeful to do it without epidural (but not opposed to one if things get too much!) That is a long time pushing! I am thinking because I’m going in 4 weeks early that it could take a while as I don’t think my body will be ready so if I go in and expect it to be a long process at least I’m not blindsided if it is and then it’s a bonus if it’s not! ❤️

Thanks so much @Ruby ❤️
