Cervical Checks Cause Labor?

Hi Ladies, I had my 37 week appointment and chose to do cervix check. It was pretty rough and uncomfortable. That was around 10:30 this morning. Since then I’ve been having non-stop contractions every 2-4 minutes apart. I can breath through them. Some of them are longer than others. Has anyone had a cervix exam (not a membrane sweep) start their labor? I’ve been waiting for the pain to die off but 12 hours later it hasn’t. I wasn’t even a centimeter dilated so I’m not trying to go to the hospital.
