To sweep or not to sweep?

I’m 39+5 and have lost a significant amount of my mucus plug today. I was going to contact the hospital today to request a sweep (my community midwife can’t fit me in until I’m 40+3) but I’m now wondering if I should just wait it out and see what happens? I know losing mucus plug isn’t necessarily an indicator but I am getting a lot of strong Braxton Hicks and baby feels very low… I’m getting impatient but not sure what to do for the best 😩

I would say go with your instincts and do what feels right x

I had my sweep on the day when I lost most of my mucus plug at 40+4, still no baby 40+6😀 After the sweep I jad normal braxton hicks in the evening, but like 40-min apart, yesterday evening and night they ramped up to be quite strong, definitely coming in waves and with lower back pain too, 10min apart, then in the morning 5min apart, but phased out again with longer intervals. I’m sure I’m in latent phase of labour for days, have another sweep booked for tomorrow, we’ll see… I don’t know if it’s any help in making your decision though :)

I wouldn't, personally. It's a type of induction that comes with its own risks, and it sounds like your body is on the way to having baby, anyway

Update - I chose not to have the sweep. Baby arrived at 9am this morning ☺️

@Anna congratulations!! Xx
