What kind of rice are you using? And what type are you trying to make?

Make sure you rinse your rice in the beginning and make sure you are putting enough water. Rice needs a lot of water to cook and do not cook on super high

@Sookie i made mexican rice, i used the same measurements but lately the past couple of times i’ve been making it has been coming out like this

The usual standard for cooking rice is always half cup more water to whatever cup of rice. For example, 1 cup rice would have 1 & 1/2 cup water. The other key thing is to use the SAME measurement utensil for the rice AND the water. I make rice almost daily. Based off the photo, you do need more water. Sometimes different kinds of rice also need more water but always measure it. And go by half cup. You also have to factor in the other ingredients you add for the Mexican rice.

Okay you can't rinse your rice right before cooking it, that will mess it up. I use long grain rice and I brown it until it's fragrant. I also make sure to add hot water when making that type of arroz and use only a saucepan. Once I add all the tomato sauce, I give a good mix, lower the heat and mix only once or twice to keep the steam in. After about 20 minutes on low heat I turn it off and let it sit, so it finishes cooking Edit brown it with some oil

I can share all the ingredients if you like

Omg I suck at rice , I came for the comments . I hope we eventually get the hang of it ❤️

Try using jasmine rice and fry the rice in oil before hand to make it brown if you’re making Mexican rice. It also looks like you didn’t use enough water or liquid and don’t lift the lid while it’s cooking!! It messes it up 🤣🤌🏼 took me 2 years to prefect my rice

@Ariel Martinez that's the one I will use a well, honestly I but what's the least expensive, and only use long grain to make Mexican rice

Cook the rice in some oil first, 1 cup of rice. until it browns then add seasoning. Then add your tomato sauce and water. I do 1 can of tomato sauce And I honestly wing it with the water lol it’s usually around 2 cans (I use the tomato can to save dishes) of water a little more or less. I let my Mexican ancestors guide me 😂 a tip would be to make sure the water is covering your rice, But you should still see a few floaters. That’s the hot spot. Bring to a boil first on medium heat like till it BUBBLES. Then put the lid on and lower the heat to low. Never open the lid while cooking. I only cook it for 15 min. Then I let it sit on no heat for 5 min. That does the trick ! ☺️

Every time I make Mexican rice, it’s a hit or miss 😭 It’s always me putting too much or too little of the sauce/liquid 🤦🏻‍♀️

Always add one more cup of water then the rice , for example if your making 2 cups of rice you would need 3 cups of water. Keep it high when it starts to dry up add some oil and put the lid lower the heat and give it about 20 mins. When you take the lid off turn your rice and lower the heat even more and cover again for about 10 more mins .

Maybe you're cooking too fast/on too high of heat? I usually let mine simmer on low covered for 20 min and then turn off heat and leave it covered for 10 min

thank you guys! i’m going to try all of your guys advice and recipes i’ll update y’all next time i make it. i’m curious tho do you guys use a whole can of tomato sauce or half of it? i’ve been doing half and also get tomato sauce because i don’t have a blender yet

@Ariel Martinez I use a whole can but the small can 😊 for 1 cup of rice. So when I talk about my water I’m also referencing the small can. I know there’s two sizes. I can’t remember oz at the moment. Also, if you’re looking for a little oomph try substituting chicken broth for the water instead. You’d put in the same amount of broth as you would water. I just use the canned broth. I do it the cheap lazy way for both sauce and broth 😂 but the chicken broth does give the rice a nice flavor and aroma.

Ok it drove me nuts I looked it’s 8oz can of tomato sauce 😂

Rinse your rice 3 times. Make sure have 1 inch of water over your rice in the pot . Put on medium heat and cover.

Is this a rice cooker?

@Favi it’s not but i wish i had one of those lol

I usually do 2 cups of rice I blend 2 tomatoes 🍅 a small piece of onion 🧅 I add I tablespoon of knorr tomato flavor this will add flavor salt and color and 1 1/2 cups of water then I put some oil in a pan when is hot I add my rice that already washed making sure is not water in it then you mix it until it gets toasted when will u know is ready? When the rice doesn’t stick together you’ll feel it then is time to add the sauce that we blended this should cover the rice but if not add more water until the rice is fully covered let it cook in high heat until most of the water is consumed but before check how is the salt if it need more this is the time to add you can do more knorr too then covered put the heat low I always do around 2 or 21/2 and your rice will be ready in 30 minutes for sure

R u cooking browning the rice long enough in the butter before adding the water and seasoning? Something it does this for me if I’m not frying the rice long enough before the next steps

To make spanish rice you have to brown it first until golden brown add 1 1/2 cups of water to 1 cup of rice make sure the heat isnt too high it will evaporate your water also you will want to cover it and stir occasionally. This will help your rice absorb water then you will add the rest of your ingredients and place the lid on bring to a small boil and stir occasionally and repeat every once in a while
