Induction? Elective C Section?

Hi ladies, I am currently in hospital as I have been offered an induction for tomorrow. (Well later today!) This is due to my health issues (All pregnancy related, I am severely anaemic, my pulse has been rising to the 200 mark at times) and baby’s movements have reduced. I have read the booklet that they have given me, and I can’t help but feel as though the methods are ‘too long’ time scale wise for me to have my daughter. I am deeply stressed about her reduced movements, and the thought of this going on for days and up to five days is really unsettling me. Do I have the right to an elective section? Or to even ask? Or will I seem ridiculous? I have visions of her becoming further distressed, along with myself and an emergency section needing to be had, especially as my cervix isn’t favourable right now and is very high. thank you:( xx

You have every right to ask! What's the worst that can happen? Advocate for what you want and hopefully they can make it happen for you :) your reasons seem perfectly reasonable to me to bring it to the table- good luck x

I had an emergency section a couple of weeks ago. If I went ahead with the induction it would have made things SO much more worse for me. I went with my gut and I’m glad I did. Go with yours xx

Firstly you are 10000% entitled to ask for a section; whether you had all of those concerns or not you’re entitled to a section, easy as that! Secondly, 100% agree and I’d do the same as you given your situation. 5 days ago I had an 18 hr labour (started naturally) that ended with an emergency section and I can say hands down the recovery is going a million times easier than I had been expecting, and him making his exit via the sunroof was the best decision for both his and my safety. I’d definitely plan a section next time and think the routine surgery aspect of it would massively take away any of the unexpected fears that come with an induction/spontaneous labour. At the end of the day it is your labour and no one else’s, only you can judge what is right for you but arm yourself with all the benefits and risks of both, and take some time to talk them through with your partner or a friend. If you’d like to know anything about my section and recovery so far I’m more than happy to chat

I am similar to you, I have pregnancy related complications and we've both had high heart rates, I've decided definitely no induction, I don't think putting either of us under any additional stress is a good idea! So if he has to come out it will be via c section

I would definitely discuss your concerns with them in regards to a c section and what you'd prefer and do it sooner rather than later. If you're anxious about it too, that's not going to help your heart rate or your options. I imagine the concern with a c section may be blood loss for you if you're already severely anaemic. It may need more thinking about regarding possible blood transfusions not just iron transfusions. Ask them if they have considered it for you and their rationale for each option for you I would. End of the day, your medical history and medical situation is going to be different to anyone on here because every pregnancy, person, baby and labour is different so just discuss it with an open mind to your doctors..
