City hospital experience

Anyone had a baby at Nottingham city hospital. Having my first baby and not sure what to expect when I go there for labor. Do they provide milk if my milk hasn’t come in. What kind of personal products to they provide me after labor? Midwife has not been very helpful

It was 3 years ago when I had my last child there, but I couldn't fault it 😊, they provided sma and cow and gate milk when I was there x

I had my daughter at city at the end of 2022 and honestly I couldn’t fault them. They was amazing from the moment I walked in to the moment I left. Even tho I had an unplanned c-section I had an amazing experience they couldn’t do enough for me or my daughter & I know they have sma milk but I took my own x

I was QMC but same trust. They advise you to bring formula- we bought some made up bottles - SMA. Good for home in case of emergency (you need sleep and not to be woken) Also bring everything you need I.e maternity pads, clothes, towel etc. I did get a towel from them to borrow as mine was drenched from the water bath (ended up on a bed) NHS state a list as below https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/labour-and-birth/preparing-for-the-birth/pack-your-bag-for-labour/

I gave birth there in July, my waters broke at 36+4 so had to stay in on a ward, they were fab and do provide milk. What milk depends on whatever they have managed to get. My midwife said it’s basically all the same anyway. They provide sanitary towels but no other toiletries so take your own. I would give birth there again any day ☺️

I was at city this time last year. My experience wasn’t great to say the least.

I gave birth at city hospital in September and it was a good experience. Midwife’s were present throughout the duration of my labour. I had to stay in hospital for 5 days after and was provided with pads and disposable underwear. They provided me with an expressing machine to get my colostrum and breast milk and was provided with formula and was able to use there steriliser too. I was also provided with breastfeed advice from the feeding team too while I was in there which was helpful. The majority of the midwife’s were amazing x

I had very mixed experiences throughout. They were very helpful with feeding advice with my first one lady even helped me hand massage and relase some of the colostrum. I was given syringes to collect it. Nappies if I ran out till someone could get some to me. With my second I felt like they wanted me out before I was ready with holding stronger pain relief 😮‍💨 bear in mind this was my second csection. My last night the nurse in charge was amazing she actually looked like she cared that I was crying and in pain. I think if I'm bring honest it's who you get looking after you and their mood and work load that day. I totally get thatcthey are busy and understaffed most of the time.🥰

I gave birth there in July, first baby. Everyone was fantastic, very supportive and willing to help. Did everything in their power to make my experience easier and pleasant considering it was very long. I stayed on the ward due to blood loss and can’t fault the team there either and the food was good too. If you do need to stay whichever hospital you’re in just pray no one snores in your room. 😆 I know that if you plan to BF but for some reason aren’t able to they can provide formula, but if you prefer a specific brand it’s best to bring some yourself. They can also support you with breastfeeding and consult on your latch, etc.
