Elective c-section under General Anaesthetic?

Nothing to be ashamed about to elect for c section. I’ve seen more trauma done to the body and baby through non successful vaginal delivery. My elective c section came early and it was most calming experience from what I imagined even brought early being told I had to come to hospital as triage unit got it wrong sending me home at 4am night before. They had already started when we were in the middle of a conversation about our pets. Didn’t feel anything. No negative side effects. You’ll see people that didn’t have great experience write about it but the people who did don’t think to write about it because it didn’t affect them. So deff bear that in mind when doing research online. It was a very calm situation from what I imagined and then some. I’m not sure they’ll put you completely asleep as that can risk you and baby and only done in an emergency I think. My LO ended up coming between 37-38wks. I promise you it’s not as daunting as some might think

I had an elective section on 3rd October, I was very anxious about the spinal but it was a very relaxed atmosphere and I was offered a tiny bit of midazolam prior to the procedure which helped and offered a bit more in the theatre as I panicked a bit when they were about to start the surgery. The spinal itself was fine, after the local anaesthetic went in all I felt was light pressure. They asked me about my job, my dog and other things while it was happening, my husband was also with me and able to play some calming music. The surgery was good didn’t feel a thing either just some tugging at times as baby was a big girl. They put a westlife album on in the theatre and to be honest I now don't remember much about it. I was also offered a painkiller via pessary after the procedure (they insert it at the end) and I would definitely recommend it if you get offered one! X

I chose an elective, so zero judgement from me. I’m a huge chicken with medical stuff but it was actually super happy and surreal. They are pros in keeping you calm and distracted. I didn’t even know they’d started the surgery! You have the right to ask for an elective but the choice of general is down to the professionals. It comes with a risk to you and to baby, that’s why they reserve it for cat1 emergencies or if a person has spinal issues that can’t take the spinal block. Honestly though, it doesn’t hurt at all. It’s SO fast, like baby in my arms in 10 mins fast and the radio playing. Such a happy experience I’m having my second baby the same way in December xx

Don’t worry, I have had 2 c sections with general anesththsia, this is my thrid child and I’ve been told it’s better to try to go for spinal before putting me to sleep because I have back problem and the medics doesn’t work in my back so they put me to sleep I was also very upset and thinking to talk to my midwife as I also don’t want to try spinal or epidural as it just gives me anxiety and pain but doesn’t work.

I was exactly the same. I had an elective c section but I went with the spinal. The panic attacks I had before and even in the room when tben were about to do it. And honestly it was the best experience. I can not fault my hospital at all. Didn’t feel anything. They explained everything really well. They looked after me amazing.
