Post C section laxatives

Hi, did anyone here need laxatives or stool softeners after their C section and, if so, would you recommend any particular brand? Many thanks!

yes i used miralax and a generic brand stool softener. i was afraid of straining too much and irritating my incision which made it even harder to go. so OB told me laxative once a day and stool softener in the morning and evening. prob only did laxative for a few days. stayed on the softeners for a month

Yes I did. I was sent home with lactulose from hospital but you can get it in any pharmacy without a prescription x

I was sent home with lactulose from the hospital.

My hospital gave them to me and do take them as the incision will be sore (and tummy etc and you won’t want apply pressure on that wound or tummy muscles

Yes I used peppermint water and lactulosis and they worked great

They gave me Colace and gas x. I was breastfeeding, idk if they would have offered something else if I wasn't

They just gave me a bottle of Lactulose whilst in hospital.

Ooh yes. I used colace and miralax

I suffer with chronic constipation in general so I already had lactulose. HOWEVER, the trapped wind is supposed to be horrendous after C-Section so I didn’t take any in the lead up and just after mine as lactulose causes bloating and gas (NHS website and personal experience). I did take colpermin peppermint capsules and these were amazing. I didn’t have any issues with constipation afterwards and I didn’t get any trapped wind as they are made for IBS and bloating relief. You can get them from the GP it’s just pure peppermint oil in a capsule x

Laxido that’s what I used was 💩ing for 1week very loose (I took two as hadn’t been for a week after my c-section)

I was sent home with lactulose and senna from the hospital to take after my section x

Lactulose they give you in hospital and subject to where you are they may give you other stuff

They gave me Senna at the hospital and I used it on and off for about 3 weeks.

I didn't. My mum made me a dinner full of vegetables and that did the trick. Best bet is to stay as hydrated as you can aswell

Got given lactulose and took prunes which helped

I used fybogel that worked great. Some hospitals will discharge with laxatives but I was discharged in the middle of the night so just got some from boots

I was given a stool softener to take home and I took gas-x and asked for it in the hospital to help manage the trapped wind. They say walking and moving about helps which is does but it that alone wasn't enough for me. So I kept up with the the gas meds like I did the pain meds.

I was sent home with lactulose but didn’t need it either time

I hadn’t been for 5 days so sent my partner out to get dulcoease and prune juice. Within a couple of hours, slipped right out 😅

Thanks so much for all the feedback - appreciate it!

Stool softener was rubbish for me, ended up taking Laxido. Make sure you get a prescription from GP so you don’t have to pay for it.

I had lactulose. My husband went and bought some as for what ever reason they wouldn't give me some from pharmacy

Peppermint oil capsules for gas and Dulcolax for softening

I took colace after my c-section!
