Steriod injection for babies

Hello lovelies So I’ve been told that since I’m having my C section when the twins are 36+3 days they might need steroid injections just before that to help them breathe a bit better once they are out. But I would like to know if anyone’s had it done and what the outcome was or if anyone has refused it and asked for another option? I’m just not a fan of the uncertainty with being told they might or might not, surely with something as important as this, it’s either they need it or don’t? FTM here, please any advice or any information would be appreciated. Had a discussion with the midwife and she herself seemed unsure.

I had them with my eldest child, in labour at 35 weeks (well, only 1 in the end as things progressed quickly and unexpectedly). He ended up in NICU anyway for breathing related issues after birth, but I was pleased I’d had it anyway, in case it had managed to do anything to support him and make the stint in NICU shorter.

I have been told the same as my baby is likely to come early (35-36 weeks) I will be having it, as when I had my little boy they didn’t get the steroids in in time and he had a LONG stint in NICU because of it! X

One to discuss with your consultant for sure, ask what the risks are, what the benefits are and what they recommend… sorry you’re facing a tough decision

It's completely understandable to feel uncertain about the steroid injections for the twins. I totally get where you're coming from with wanting a clearer answer on whether they're needed or not. It's a big decision, especially for a first-time mom like yourself. It might be helpful to seek a second opinion from another healthcare provider or specialist to get more clarity on the situation. Gathering more information can help you make the best decision for you and the twins. Hang in there, and trust your instincts!
