Hospital bag help!

I’m trying to pack my hospital bag for me and baby but I feel like I’m over packing. It’s my first baby and I have no idea where to start. How much of everything do I need? Nappies? Maternity pads? Breast pads? Clothes and muslins? I’m getting so overwhelmed. Can anyone help? What do I put in my bag and how many of each? And what do I put in babies bag and how much? Thanks

Yeah, I literally didn't even use half the stuff I packed. If you're having a normal pregnancy and delivery, and will be there for only 2-3 days max, then 12 nappies should be fine. Maybe 16 if you're breastfeeding because Baba will poop a lot more. Might as well overpack when it comes to nappies! 3 muslins. 3 breast pads. 6 maternity pads and maternity underwear. Face wash, toothbrush, tooth paste, shower gel and moisturiser. You'll want some 2 pairs of lounge clothes whilst in hospital. Maybe some face wipes for yourself. Baba: 3 vests, 3 sleep grows, 3 hats, a snow/pramsuit. 1-2 packs of wipes (you'll blow through these very quickly). Sudocrem. ^ for a typical 2-3 day hospital stay.

@Kash thankyou! what size baby clothes? Are newborn and first size the same?

@Becky go with 0 - 3 months!

@Becky maybe pack 5 vests and sleep grows actually just in case Baba sicks up/has reflux

@Kash okay thanks for your help!

I packed for 0-3 months as was told my baby would be 9lb at 40 weeks. I went into labour at 36+5 and she was 6lb 11 so clothes were huge! I had some newborn at home thankfully so had those brought to me. She was still in 0-1 month when she was 7-8 weeks old so I would take a mixture of sizes and have some ready at home easy for your partner etc to bring in if required. I changed my baby every 3 hours with feeding (she was lazy and it was the easiest way to wake her) so I used about 8 every 24 hrs. Don’t forget that you don’t need everything all at once as people can bring you things. I also didn’t bother with sudocream etc. Baby is now 10 weeks and never had any need for any creams etc ☺️

My hospital gave us a list and at NCT I was told a large suitcase would work best. Especially when they tell you to take your own pillows (for comfort) and all the snacks.

@Lauryn thankyou for your help! :)

I realise that doesn’t help you, but they’ve since taken back my pregnancy folder, maybe check in that?

As well as your hospital bag, leave another bag packed at home with extra bits for mostly baby (due to sick etc) and maybe an extra change of clothes for yourself in just incase you have a longer stay needs extra clothes for someone to easily grab ! That way if you need it, it’s sorted out without u worrying / family finding things etc & it’s not also taking up space at the hospital if you don’t need it !
