EVC

Well events have changed, the little lad been engaged all the way through pregnancy with head down and now at 35 weeks he’s decided to move and lie breech! I wondered if anyone has had a similar experience? I’m due to go back for another presentation scan next week to see if he’s still breech and and a consultant appointment as they’ve suggested an ECV. I don’t know anyone who’s had one and really worried about it. I’ve heard the success rates are 50%. If they can’t turn him then I’m having a c section as I don’t want to try a breech vaginal birth. Has anyone got any advice, past experience they could share?

I had a breech baby woth my first and had an ECV done. Happy to talk about it if you want to DM me. It did not work for me so we had a C section, happy to talk about that too.

Oh please x

It's worth asking/researching your particular hospital's success rates with ECV. My boy had been breech all the way through so that makes it less likely to be successful but you might have a better chance if he's just turned. My MIL is a midwife and advised me not to try ecv based on the above so I had a section. Good luck x

@Nikki so they’re saying 50% success rate. Yeah he’s literally just moved in the last 1-2 weeks. Was it only based on your case or does she not recommend them at all. X

Based on my case and the hospital rates. I was also suffering with some quite bad back pain so she said overall best to opt for a section. I'd say you sound like a good candidate given its just been a recent move. If you really want a natural labour then go for it. It's obviously a much quicker recovery time after. My planned section went fairly well and I recovered well but I did have a lot of family support around me x

@Nikki Thankyou so much Nikki. That’s really helped. I’ll bite the bullet and give it a go. At least I’ve done what I can, in the meantime I’m trying exercises to make him turn again x

Baby has been breech since 32 weeks. Was planned to have ECV yesterday even though I would had opted out but luckily baby turned on examination even though still high up the pelvis at 37wks. I was informed there’s probability of turning again as she isn’t engaged but it will have to be a c-section if it happens. Be hopeful that baby turns before that time and be open to whatever option that’s safe for you and baby. You’ve got this!❤️

@wealth Thankyou, I’ll keep holding out on the hope he turns x

I have read a few things that have put me off ECV the chance of cord getting caught, the chance that they may not be able to turn them plus there is a higher risk of them flipping back around during labour anyway. I am 33 weeks and breech so if he doesn’t turn on his own I am opting for c section I think. Sending love x

@Kati Thankyou kati. I guess there’s risks with everything and I know they scan you throughout to locate the baby and cord. I’d like a natural birth but if not then it is what it is. I’m just hoping he turns. X

@Emma-Jane fingers crossed for you lovely

My baby has not been head down for any scan. They have said head down when she has been felt though. I was told early this week she was oblique. I have a scan on Monday to see if she has turned head or bum down. If she still hasn't then I will be looking at a stay in the hospital until she arrives. They moved her at the appointment and she just moved straight back to her comfy spot. If she has moved to breech I would also ask for a section as i don't want to risk a breach birth
