Contractions stopping and starting

I’m 40 weeks pregnant today and my contractions were becoming regular (every 5/6 minutes) and stronger, and eventually just eased off. Have any of you mamas had false alarms like this? It’s a little frustrating as I’m going through all these contractions and doesn’t seem to be leading to labour 😢

I had false alarms like this! I started my labour on the 25th (august 23) and my little boy wasn’t born until the 28th. Contractions stopped the evening of the 26th but kicked in badly when they came back! All the best 😊

This is just my opinion, but I wouldn’t say it’s a “false alarm” I would say it probably is labour! I was in active labour for 54 hours (and I was 10 days overdue). For a while, my contractions were consistently 2.5 minutes apart and lasting almost one minute. Then 12 hours later they were 5 or 6 minutes apart but still increasing in pain. And I was still more than 12 hours away from giving birth but I had dilated from 2cm to 6cm when they slowed down! From what I’ve heard, it’s normal to go through a period in your labour where things are kinda slower. Take those opportunities to rest, have a snack, and drink some water. And even if it is a false alarm, it’s still progress!!

@Polly thank you Polly that’s reassuring❤️

@Emily really appreciate your message. Definitely reassuring to hear. I guess I didn’t expect contractions to be starting and stopping!

@Hayley Ive read that it's not false labour, sometimes the baby needs to get in a better position so contractions start for a bit to help them manoeuvre- then sometimes they stop so the baby can rest- it's so clever! I'm 41+1 and haven't had as much as a blimming Braxton hicks lol 🙈

Yes with my first, I was still working... so I think I wasn't letting the oxytocin flow. Once I relaxed and watched comedy on TV it started again

Never a false alarm. Those contractions will be doing some work somewhere z
