Pre op for elec section

What can I expect from a pre op for an elective section? My only experience of a C-section was an emergency one 4 years ago so an elective C-section is completely new to me🫣

I have my pre op tomorrow and also very intrigued!! I’ll come back and let you know my experience ☺️

@Chloe thank you! My last experience was quite the opposite of this time so I'm just wondering what to expect, and good luck with everything hope everything goes to plan for you x

I just got back from my pre op - it was quite quick - they did a blood test for full blood count, MRSA swab and then a quick meeting to go through the meds you need to take before you come in on the day. I guess every hospital is different but mine do it 2 days before the c section date, then tomorrow I get a call telling me what time to come in on the day x

Hey I had my c section few days ago pre the operation we received a text on Sunday saying to come in on Wednesday at 7:30 on Tuesday they rang confirmed the time date and that you can’t eat or drink (except water) from midnight the night before. I went in the morning and luckily I was the first to go in. Your circumstances determine the order of who is in first. I was having the section because baby was breech but because of GD they put me as first on the day. They got me into the delivery suite where they started checking my blood pressure, sugars etc you then meet the team so I spoke to the anaesthetist who went through her part then we spoke to a doctor and nurse about the operation and about baby being breech. They also check the baby’s heart beat to make sure there ok and because only reason I was doing the section due to position they also scanned to make sure there were no changes! About 9:30 they took me into the operation room with my partner started the pain relief etc

10:03 baby was taken out and 10:30ish I was being taken back into the delivery suit were they did the post op checks! This was all in Leeds I’m not sure how different areas will differ but I imagine most are the same and little bits will be slightly different depending on your situation hope all the best the big day xx

@Alex my pre op is two days before too. Thank you for replying and letting me know your experience. I hope everything goes well for you🤞x

@Julia glad to hear everything went well with your C-section! How long was it before you got to go home? I had to stay three days after my emergency section due to GD and an infection my son got due to fluid on his lungs, I'm hoping this time with it being an elective section and a later gestation I'll be home with 1-2days🤞xx

@Julia and I don't have GD with this pregnancy, but baby is on the bigger side🫣😂x

I was let out the day after just over 24h because the discharge midwife had an emergency she had to deal with first! All tests on me and baby were great so I was a little desperate to go home ASAP!!!

@Julia aw good, that's what I'm hoping for this time around since last time was quite traumatic and I'm hoping this time around will be much different🤞 what gestation were you at your C-section?x
