Induction Experiences

Hello all! I’m hoping to hear your reasons/experience’s for induction! They want to induce me but I’m just not understanding why when my baby is perfectly healthy and strong apart from his arms and legs being short so I’m feeling conflicted as to why I should and any benefit of it.

I was induced as the baby was 2 weeks late. After 42 weeks the placenta is not as affective, they cant monitor it and still births are a lot more common. For high risk pregnancies there are many reasons why they might want to induce you early. It is easier to monitor the baby when their out.

I was induced 10 days early due to her not growing enough in the space of time... got induced at 1.30pm and she was here at 11.55pm same day.

It’s totally your choice what you want to do. They wanted to induce me 10 days early of my due date. I declined and said I wanted to go to term and had a planned c section one day before my due date as I wanted to give her as much opportunity to come on her own. I definitely do not regret my decision not to be induced. I think we are in an inducing epidemic, so perhaps they can time and know when babies are born, but that is just my POV and ultimately you have to go with what you are comfortable with.

@Kirstie That’s what they are saying to me but I can’t wrap my head around it. If he is still healthy and fine, surely I should give him as much time as possible?

@Sarah That’s why I’ve been slightly against inductions! They seem to be used constantly at the moment and if my baby was in danger or distress they would c section me right? I’m going to ask why they think that is the best option but I’m really not convinced

@Rhiannon he may not be babe if he not growing that means we ain't supplying the rite nutrition for our little ones... I was only 10 days early but she was only 5lb 2!!!. Xx

@Rhiannon I think really ask them for the facts around it and the pro’s and con’s. One being, is my baby currently in distress? What will happen if I wait and don’t have an induction? C sections cost the NHS a lot so unless your baby is in immediate distress and/or you refuse induction that could become an option.

I was induced at 40 weeks due to reduced movements, I felt the same from what I’d read online but when the doctor explained why they offered it I felt it made sense. I had a really positive experience, I knew I was going in so I got my house tidy, washed my hair etc so I felt prepared, my labour was very quick and my contractions was close together (I don’t know if this was my natural response or induction led) and I’m extremely lucky to say I loved my birthing experience and would genuinely relive it if I could.

Please do your research to make an informed decision whenever it is the right thing for you to do. This book is amazing: https://amzn.eu/d/czoq3Vi
