Cesarean

Tomorrow marks 39 weeks of pregnancy, and I’ve just learned that I’ll need a C-section with my first child because she’s breech. This is the exact opposite of everything I had envisioned. I planned an unmedicated birth at a birthing center, surrounded by my midwives and doula. While I am deeply grateful to have access to the healthcare that will ensure my baby girl’s safe arrival, I am overwhelmed with grief and heartbreak over how drastically my plans have changed. I feel lost and unsure how to process this sudden shift, and I don’t know how to cope with the emotions. Do I give up trying to flip her ?

As someone who's baby turned footling breech during labour, anything can happen up until the moment. Do you have any other scans booked to check the position? Also, have you asked about the reasons why they can't perform a natural breech birth? As you don't have to have a c section My c section was an incredibly positive experience, and it's incredibly hard when things don't go your way, but birth is unexpected. Anything can happen, so although you envisioned an ideal scenario. Both scenarios have the same outcome, that beautiful baby you've loved and grown for 9 months xx

@Jodie I have another scan on Thursday . They don’t want me to deliver vaginally because of her size & since I don’t have a “proven pelvis “ meaning I’ve never given birth vaginally . I’m grateful she is healthy

Have you tried any natural remedies? I have a friend whose doula gave her a foot massage that turned the baby. I can’t confirmed if that’s what actually turned the baby but maybe look into it. If I were you I would try everything 😅

I’ve had a cat 1 emergency C section with my first and my plans were also for a very natural birth. As you say safety comes above everything else in the end, if there are no other options. I completely understand the shock of the change of plan! Maybe see if you can have your own music playing during section and if they can lower curtains to see her come out, etc? I had 2 C-sections now and the second one was actually a very calm beautiful experience. Healing takes a bit longer and I’d really recommend scar tissue massage later to help with numbness, overhang, appearance of scar…. And I’d ask for laxatives straight after section to avoid painful constipation after operation. And do skin to skin after. Once baby is there that’s all that matters. And I think all C-section mummy’s are total heroes too, it’s not the easy option it sometimes gets painted as I think.

You cant plan everything and its best to be prepared for anything when it comes to birth. I know that before your baby comes the delivery seems very important, but in reality once the baby is here its the last thing you think about very shortly after. I had an emergency C section and the most important part is when you all are together and healthy at home✨

Have you tried spinning babies? You weren’t able to get an ECV done?

Try miles circuit!!! It helped both of my sons turn head down hun

Most doctors lack the practice of doing an ECV but you can always ask and see if they are able to do it for you

34 weeks here and just found out my baby is breech, there’s still time for her to turn, but like you I was planning to give birth at a birth center so I’m kind of disappointed… I hope you manage to avoid the c section, and if you don’t I hope everything goes well 🤞🏻
