Labour

So I went for a sweep today (I’m 39 weeks) and midwife said I’m 2cm dilated. Anyone else who has had a sweep did it work? Or how long did active labour begin after being 2cm dilated? I know probably silly questions but I just don’t know what to expect and when to expect it x

I had a sweep at 40+2, was 2cm dilated and had my first contraction during it. 5 hours later my waters broke and I gave birth less than 3 hours after that. I was indenial about being in labour as my contractions weren't painful or intense, they were just like period cramps and I never had Braxton Hicks so i had nothing to compare it to. Everyone is different, I've known people who have had 2 or 3 sweeps that haven't worked

I had my sweep at 39 weeks at 3cm dialated. Started getting back pain at midnight and thought nothing of it, next day I still had the back ache and mowed the lawn and walked about a mile. SURPRISE I was in labor and it was all in my back 🤣 had my husband take me in when he got home from work after I ate dinner and was at 7cm lmao. After being told by my husband on the drive over "youre probably not in labor, they said you wouldnt be able to talk" if it works it's normally within 24-48 hours from what I was told.

i had my first sweep at 40+2, was nearly 2cm and just had some cramping. had my next sweep at 40+6, i was 3cm dilated. afterwards i had some cramping that turned into contractions that then became regular contractions. baby was born just under 12 hours after my sweep x

@Sammi ooo exciting, but scary! Especially as I had been having contractions (false as they say) badly for the past 3 weeks, but I then lost my mucus plug and they stopped and now since then I’m dilated and had a sweep so we shall see!🥰

@🪷Faith🪷 oh my?! Wow it’s so crazy how differently everyone experiences it?! Like they always say if you’re in labour you will know, the contractions will take your breath away etc but like no not always?

@Stacie oh wow, scary but so exciting! I’m guessing most of the time sweeps work then so I best prepare myself! X

I had a sweep (on a Thursday) at 39+5, waters in tac and 2cm dilated. I went into 7am on the Saturday. Had my son Sunday morning at 10am.

No way to tell really. Could be hours could be days. My step sons mum just had her daughter and she was 3cm dilated for over a week, had 4 sweeps from 38 weeks nothing worked and ended up being induced at 41 weeks. 3rd baby for her too!

@Parris take my advice and if you think they might be contractions, time them. I didn't and when I got to the hospital I was 9cm so it was all systems go 😂

I had a sweep at 40 weeks and was 1-2cm, I still had to induced a week later 🙈 stubborn boy x

I had one and best decision I made! Had sweep done at 5:30pm and waters broke 5am next day and baby arrived by 3pm that same day👏 very positive experience for me and would definitely do it again. I had a waterbirth with just gas and air 😊 and baby came bang on his due date 🥰 I had no signs or symptoms beforehand so I was convinced it wasn’t going to work 😅 xxx

My second sweep did. I was 2cm and my cervix was soft and open. I had my baby the next morning!

@Kellie oh wow! Happens so quick!

@Bethan strange how different it is for everyone! X

@Jasmine yeah I sometimes think he’s a bit too happy in there lol x

@Alex oh wow that sounds wonderful! Happy for you🥰

@Terri oh wow! That’s amazing x

@Parris My experience was exactly like @Alex 's above. Water birth with gas and air. It was the perfect birth in my opinion! Best of luck!

@Parris but I should add that when I was induced I had him in an hour and 17 minutes so he was actually more than ready 😂😂

I had 4 sweeps from 40 weeks pregnant and didn’t have her until 41+6

@Terri awe that sounds amazing!!

@Jasmine oh wow! That’s quick, bet you felt so relieved after!

@Rachael awe no! How far apart were the sweeps?

I had a sweep and was 1-2cm, that was Wednesday, had another sweep on the Sunday and was 3cm. I had my baby the following Wednesday, my labour was just under 4 hours 😲🤣 so I don’t necessarily think the sweeps did anything for me, but it made me feel better knowing my body was preparing itself. I got to hospital after they told me to take a bath 🙈 and was screaming at them to check me and I was fully dilated and they could see baby’s head 😂😂😂 so pleased I listened to my body or he’d have been born in the bath!! 🤣

I was in hospital for a week being induced and in that time I had 2 sweeps and they didn’t make anything happen at all. I think everyone is different 🙂

I had a sweep at 38 weeks and was 3cm...still nothing 😭😭😭

I was 2cm but didn’t go into labour till a week later.
