Bottles hospital bag

Morning all I’m planning to try and breast feed. Do I need to bring a bottle in my hospital bag just in case? ❤️

I’ve got some of those disposable pre-made up bottles of formula. That way if something goes off plan I have a way to feed my baby, but also I don’t need to worry about sterilising bottles at the hospital.

@Harriet I’ve done this too

You don't need to, if you plan to breastfeed and it doesn't go to plan the hospital can provide ready made milk in bottles. If you have a strong preference over which milk brand you want to use you may like to bring your own

Most hospitals tend to let you feed formula from a small cup if you don’t want to introduce bottles in the earlier days

I’ve took a sterilised bottle and one of the cartons of milk but I’m going to try really hard not to use it. I’ve had to sterilise a dummy as well so did the bottle at the same time xx

@Rachel the dummy and bottle won't stay sterile so you'll need to have a plan to sterilise in the hospital if you need to use it. They're only sterile for 24 hours

@Charley oh really? The bottle has a lid and the dummy is in a sterile box so thought that would seal it.. maybe need to have a rethink x

@Rachel no they're not airtight, so anything that's sterilised at home only stays that way for 24 hours, it's in the instructions of sterilisers. You can buy microwave steriliser bags, and Milton do a small individual bottle steriliser, and most post natal wards have a parent kitchen where you can sterilise and make milk

I’ve taken the ready made ones incase my milk doesn’t come through straight away . But will obviously try to breast feed first

I’ve also packed a box of the ready made formula with the teats just in case. Figured I can donate it to a food bank if I don’t need to use them as they’ve got a long date on them!

The hospital with have some if you need it. You could also try hand expressing colostrum before birth to freeze and take with you.

@Charley thank you, I’ll see what I can find xx

I’ve packed a box of formula with the teats as back up. Did so with my daughter too but I’m sure the hospital have these in just will be the formula they have so depends on your preferences 🙂 x

You don't need to bring anything. I breasfed my first and did not bring anything with my first. If needed they will provide you.
