Elective Section

I’m 32 + 2, I’m seeing my consultant tomorrow for a growth scan (first one) and an appointment. Background: I had a really traumatic birth with my first, I had an induction due to size (we were told he’d be over 10lb and he was actually only 7lb), developed sepsis during delivery, I haemorrhaged, needed transfusions, other things went wrong, ended up needing surgery so I’ve opted for an elective section this time around. What is the likelihood that I’ll receive my section date tomorrow? What should I ask my consultant? What things should I consider when writing a birth plan? Is there anything I can control with my section? Also anything I can do to aid my recovery. I’m getting quite nervous? I’m a plus size mama, with a crazy 4 year old at home. Thank you!!! 🥰

I had an emergency csection with my 4th. My first 3 were vaginally. I'm sorry you had such a traumatic delivery with your first child. I was told if I want a scheduled section, you have to be at least 39 weeks. I know with a csection you can't drive or lift more than 10 pounds for 2 weeks. It's something to think about. Best of luck!

My section has been “approved” my consultant thinks with everything that went wrong and the anxiety/trauma I’ve got around giving birth, it’s the safest and best option for me and my baby! Unfortunately a natural birth will most likely result in more surgery post delivery. I’m just getting pretty nervous!

Yeah you won't be able to pick up your 4 year old for a while or drive for several weeks. You can ask about the amount of skin to skin time you can get after baby is born, you can insist on getting your catheter after you're numb....my hospital usually does it before the spinal block is done but I asked to wait so they had to. I don't know if you can change much else since I haven't asked. My emergency csection was awful but my two planned csections were smooth and easy.

I asked my midwife about a C-section date at 28week appt and she gave me the date it is provisionally booked for its bang on 39weeks. I’m yet to have my birth choices appt but I have been pretty adamant from the start that I want a C-section due to failed induction last time and needing a C-section then.

I was only given a date around 35 weeks.

I had an emergency c-section under general anaesthesia so I sadly missed the first few hours of my son being born and my partner wasn’t allowed to see him for the 45 mins after being born. I was so concerned that we missed delayed cord clamping, skin to skin initiating breastfeeding etc but all worked out well and I had an amazing recovery I believe my recovery was really good because I was up on my feet as soon as I had sensation in my legs. I was walking around the room, changing my baby etc and they do say movement helps. Obviously take it easy and don’t overdo it but movement is important. 5 days after giving birth I went on a short walk around my local area and that did the world of good getting some fresh air I hope all goes well

I chose to have a c section because of poor mental health and not being able to cope with labour. I am 30 weeks but I was given an appointment around 34 weeks and hoping to get a date then.

I got given a date one week after signing consent but that was because I was full term so they had to sort it quickly. All the very best with your section ✨🙏🏽

I still wasn't given a C-section date at my 36 week appointment so don't hold your breath, I ended up going into spontaneous labour at 36+4 and had a section at 37 weeks exactly... Only because I was stubborn and wanted to try given birth vaginally but obviously my body didn't want to do that 😂

Hey! I’m back from my appointment and my wonderful consultant booked me in there and then for my section, answered all my questions and was genuinely really lovely!
