Waters broke, no contractions.

Hello everyone, my waters broke yesterday morning, I’m yet to start having regular contractions, even the few I’ve had aren’t painful. I’ve planned to have a home birth, so I’m looking for tips and tricks to get things going, I couldn’t sleep for worrying about having to go into the hospital this morning. They want me to come in if nothings happening. I’ve not had this with my other labours. Thanks in advance x

This happened to me three times! They’ll advise induction after 24 hours but it’s not compulsory. I decided not to have this with the first 2 and went on to have the babies naturally within 48 hours or so. I did opt for induction after 24 hours with the last one but there were other factors involved. The risk of infection increases, but for me that risk seemed low. They’ll offer antibiotics too, which again is up to you. The risk I was given was that at 24 hours the risk goes from 1 in 100 to 2 in 100, but discuss with the health professionals. Good luck! X

Have you tried having a warm bath? My waters went before contractions started and a bath made me go in to full on active labour and she was out very shortly after. Good luck x

Due to the risk of infection, you will have to go into hospital if nothing starts happening soon

@Yasmin second this, I’m in the group and the woman there will give you a tonne of real research into why you don’t need to be induced & support on how to speak loud on what YOU want x

@Rebecca Was about to say this! Don't want to risk getting an infection x

I'd go in the risk of infection gets higher and higher, just for your own reassurance, and to check bubs is doing ok. Good luck xx

I didn't really realise when my water broke (I had been having contractions for days and hadn't slept). I only realised when I got in hospital and they told me my waters had gone and I vaguely remembered having some wetness the day before. I ended up with an infection which put a lot of stress on baby during labour. When she was eventually born we both needed antibiotics and regular blood tests to check they were working which is horrible for a newborn. It was awful and the last thing I needed was to be fighting an infection during and after birth. Normally I'm all for low intervention, woman led care and would love to try a home birth for myself, but honestly in this situation I would consider going in.

Unfortunately my waters broke 5am and I had no contractions so had to go in due to risk of infection and therefore had a induction (really amazing experience and so quick) but I tried bouncing on my ball, going for walks kept very active for as long as possible.

Keep active as much as possible, don't sit/lay around and wait for it, walk around. And get the oxytocin flowing. Lots of cuddles off loved ones, lovey movies, listen to your favourite music etc. I wouldn't recommend a bath if your waters have gone due to infection risk. If you don't start soon you'll unfortunately probably have to go in and at least get checked, don't risk an infection.

It’s begun, labouring at home, thank you my lovelies for all your advice xx

Good luck!! Wishing you a speedy, uncomplicated, pain free birth!

@Katie thank you, unfortunately it was very traumatic again, I gave birth on the floor in the hospital theatre

Awwh, I'm sorry to hear that ☹️ Are you and baby okay?

@Katie we are, we’re now home, he needed some support, I’m struggling with it mentally but we’re trying to get it resolved with the hospital and they’re Investigating why what happened, happened. But he is the most perfect little thing and was worth every second x
