Induction

It’s my understanding that syntocin is what starts the contractions, rather than your water being broken. Will you be getting induced again?

They want to induce me at 39 weeks (I'm currently 36) the ob has suggested this as a 'compromise ' I guess. She thinks because I have already had a baby and because the birth was so fast last time that there's a high chance just breaking my waters will be enough to get things going so the plan is break waters then let me move, walk, birth ball etc to try to get things moving without any further drugs etc. But I don't know anyone who has done this so have no idea of the likelihood of it working or the experience to expect from it

I was induced with my first and looking to be induced with my second also. I had a sweep at 38+6, was 4cm and he was born the same day and yes he was very quick. Not quite sure if this is something you’ve been offered or discussed?

I was just induced for my 3rd 2 weeks ago and it was the best of all my deliveries!! My contractions didn’t start after waters breaking, so I had to have induction meds. And honestly it went so much faster and smoother than my others! GLx

@Sharnee I have thought about that but no haven't specifically talked about that option. Thanks! You're waters didn't break during the sweep? It just did the job how it was meant to?

@Hope haha that's so funny, guess it's all luck of the draw. I found the drugs so overwhelming and couldn't get a handle on the pain the whole time but good to know it's not always like that

@Steph I was so nervous and anxious but honestly, you know and your body knows what it’s doing! You got this!

@Hope out of curiosity (if you don't mind me asking) did you have an epi? I didn't last time but that's my back up plan this time if I do end up needing the meds😅

@Steph nope! I’ve done 3 unmedicated births. But each one, I always say, I’m gonna get the epi if I really can’t do it. If you’ve done it before, you honestly won’t need it this next time. I had the gel inserted at night and was 2cm for 12 hours. But when I got to 6-7cm, I was pushing 15mins later and baby was born 10mins later! I had wanted to use the tub and gas when I got to 6cm but the last bit just went too fast. Without the epi, it can go so quickly, especially the pushing part!!

@Steph my waters didn’t break until I was pushing. My ob offered a cervical check and said I was 4cm so then offered the sweep. I went home, the usual sweep symptoms happened as soon as I left, lost plug, period cramps, back ache etc. but stayed active (chasing my 14m old around!). I put my son to bed and started getting more intense period cramps (contractions duh!) but had a bath to try see if they would ease off as I didn’t want to go to hospital for nothing. Well I nearly had him in the car, he was born so fast he had haemorrhaging in the whites of his eyes.
