Breech!

I am 37 weeks pregnant and found out today my baby boy is breech! They’ve given me two options of an ECV (moving the baby externally) or having an elective c- section. They’ve said with the position my baby is in there is a 50% chance of the ECV working and he could just move back or could result in an emergency C-section. Has anyone been in this position and got any advice? Thankyou! x

My baby was breech at 36 weeks. Booked an ECV for a week later but had some acupuncture. Turned up for the ECV and baby was no longer breach. She didn't turn but I ended up with an emergency c section for a different reason. You can do nothing, you can book an ECV and tell them to stop if you can't handle it, you can book a c section or ask for a breech birth. I think they don't really like breech births in the UK and do prefer a c section. Do what your gut feeling tells you

Prenatal Yoga is known to help turn the baby the right way before labour- look into that as its the least evasive and more pleasant option.

Iv Just been through the same thing. I decided to go with C-section as the ecv might not work and could cause distress or early labour. The natural breech birth would prob end in emergency C-section aswell, so just went straight for the section. They said if baby turns before the date of it then I can still opt to deliver naturally and cancel the section but i actually felt relief to have a date and a plan in place.

I can’t speak from experience, but only by what my good friend said with her breech baby at 37 weeks and tried the ECV but said it was the most painful thing and so if I was in the same position in my pregnancy, I wouldn’t go for it (trusting her judgement). It wasn’t successful for her so she had to have a c-section. You can look up Spinning Babies for advice and tips, walking, birthing ball exercises and yoga to help 🤞🏼🤞🏼

He might flip on his own like mine did but be prepared for anything if he doesn't but there is some yoga and stretching that can get him in the right position if you haven't tried them yet

I had the exact same (currently 38 weeks.) I went back in to hospital a few days after being told he was breech for the ECV, and he’d turned naturally! If you want to try to turn him, I’d recommend yoga poses as some others have suggested, and using a birthing ball, as well as walking around a lot to help gravity do its thing! Xx

In the exact same position right now except I’m 36+5! I’ve chosen c section as ECV does have its risks too. Waiting to hear a date now, I just want to know 😩

Look up the website called spinning babies and start doing their exercises, they work from what I've read, especially the inversion Oh and Bowen physiotherapy can help too, plus look up preparing for birth exercises too x

Has he been breech all along or has he suddenly flipped? Because if he has space to flip breech he has space to flip back down! My son flipped himself at the last minute but do prepare for a c-section just in case as an ECV and even a vaginal birth have a risk of c section x

I’m the same, baby has been breech throughout, I’m nearly 38 weeks. Had the ECV earlier this week which wasn’t successful and very painful, I’ve been booked for a c section which I didn’t ideally want but seems to be my only choice now

I’m in the same position. They attempted ECV at 37+1. It didn’t really hurt me but also it was unsuccessful. I did ask that they don’t push too hard as I really didn’t want an emergency c-section. I’ve booked in for elective but going to try everything I can with the hope that she flips before then.

Which week of gestation are your electives booked for? I had a very painful and unsuccessful ECV on Thursday and will be discussing birth options on Monday at 37+5.

@Magda I will be 39 weeks and 4 days on the day of mine x

Try book a couple of Acupuncture appts - I did this & it got baby head down. It’s amazing what they can do!! They were the ones that also got me contracting, waters broke & little girl here within 5 hours Xx

I’m in the same position boat - 36+3 and sitting in transverse position. They’ve offered me an ECV on Thursday or o can opt for an elective c-section later on which I’m so scared of I don’t know what to do. When you read/weigh up the risks, it seems logical to just book an elective. Might give a bit more time to get baby’s head down - wishful thinking. 🤷🏻‍♀️😖
