Not dilated at all

Feeling a little discouraged. I am 39 weeks today and had a cervical check. I am not dilated at all, but 50% effaced. Dr. said she would bet I wouldn’t be going into labor anytime soon. Any words of wisdom here? I’m getting induced on the 15th (due date 11th), but anything I can do to help avoid induction would be great. She didn’t recommend membrane sweep because I didn’t pass the strep test.

It really isn't an exact science. Being 0cm you can go into labour tonight or be 2cm and be waiting for another week. It is so difficult to predict.

I felt so discouraged today about my appointment too 0cm dilated and due the 8th I just found a workout video to naturally induce labor but I’m waiting til my partner is home tomorrow to try it and my midwife told me to insert those evening primrose capsules vaginally which I’ll be trying tonight hopefully things get moving along soon!

@Bianca did your midwife recommend a specific brand? There are so many out there!

@MK no I just got “sports research” brand at Walmart it’s 1300 mg and they told me place 3 only. As long as they’re gel capsules I don’t think it matters much

With my second I was at a 0 at 39 weeks and maaaaaybe half a centimeter at 40 and I was booked for a repeat c section because she said she didn’t think I’d go into labor soon.. but I went into labor on my own at 40+3 and had her 40+4. This time around I’m 39 weeks and have been at almost a 2 for 2 weeks and have still had no signs of labor starting. Dilation before being in labor is actually not an indicator at all of when you will go into labor. Every person and every labor is different and can start from any point of dilation. It’s so hard at this point just waiting around and wondering when!

My doctor also said that dilation means just about nothing. You can be 3cm dilated for several weeks, or 0cm dilated and go into spontaneous labor the next day! Outside of a few scenarios, it’s not necessary or indicative. Hope that helps!

@Kaitlynne thank you I do appreciate that info
