Does HCG declining mean no retained tissue?

I had surgical management 3 weeks ago today and testing my HCG out since. It’s going down but not gone totally. I ovulated this week so we started trying again but I’m worried now about retained tissue..

I would definitely get a blood HCG test to make sure there is no retained tissue x

Thanks for the reply. How would a blood test differ to a test?

HcG doesn’t necessarily correlate to retained products. If you have concerns about retained products you will need a scan to confirm this. HcG stays in your system for a while, regardless. This looks like it’s definitely reducing but I would be careful to assume your ovulation test is positive while your HcG is still high, as the tests can give false positives due to the HcG x

Generally by 3 weeks a pregnancy test is negative if all products are gone. If it’s still positive then I would contact the unit where you had the surgical management. It’s also advised to hold off starting to try again until you have a negative test. You’re also not likely to be ovulating if there’s still HCG in your system

Not necessarily mine was fading over 5 weeks at 3 weeks I found out I had a small amount of retained tissue I had a very heavy period at 5 weeks tested negative thought it was finally over. However I had a repeat ultrasound and still had retained tissue so had to have a further d&c x

I’ve always been advised that if still testing positive 3 weeks post miscarriage then to get a scan to check for retainer tissue.

A drop is definitely a good sign, but if you want to be reassured, it's better to get a blood test. My HCG never went to 0, but dropped below 25 within 2 weeks which showed negative test in the strips. I was able to get my period and ovulate while still having lingering HCG of <10
