Advice for a c section?

First potential c section in a few weeks and I’ve heard all sorts - take peppermint tea because you can get pretty bloated and gassy? Pain in your shoulders? What everyone prepped for a c section?

If they offer you lactulose then take it! I was soooo constipated for about 10 days afterwards and it ended up being more painful than the actual wound in the end, couldn't sit down or anything 😭 Also don't do too much too soon, but still stay a bit active x

Two time c section mum here. Agree with the Laculose take it when offered! Make sure you take big pants with you that come all the way up, you’re not going to want anything rubbing near your incision. High waisted leggings or dungarees are your friend. Move around as soon as you can but take it easy. The drugs you get at first make it feel like you could climb a mountain but when they wear off it sucks. I didn’t get the shoulder pain or the gas, but I did have pain in my bum for a few weeks afterwards from the spinal anaesthetic. If I sat in one position for too long it got uncomfortable. Rest when you can afterwards and make sure your scar gets lots of air as it can help it to heal quicker and reduce the risk of infections.

Had an emergency c section 3 weeks ago, can confirm I had both the gassiness and the shoulder pain. Shoulder pain went away on its own after 2 weeks, and peppermint tea definitely helped with constipation. I drank a few liters in the first 3 days ooops. If it’s scheduled in advance, I would have easily digestible meals the day before (was a surprise for me so of course I messed up haha). Also don’t laugh. Ask everyone to not tell you jokes. I swear the pain from laughing is the worst 😂 You’ve got this, you will be just fine even with no prep at all 🙏

Lactalose and pain relief are a must! Don’t leave the hospital without them! Also high waisted leggings and or dresses are your best friend! Don’t bother with pads just get incontinence pants. Make sure they have done all the checks etc before you leave the hospital as mine didn’t and I got a phone call and had to go back 2 days later and let me tell you car rides are no fun. Once home I used to have a backpack of pain meds, water bottle snacks etc that I would pack in the morning come downstairs with everything and then pack up again and take up at night so I was not going up and down stairs. As everybody else has said try to keep moving but only small amounts and rest as much as you can. Especially whilst you have someone else around. C

Keep ontop of pain medication and if you need more do ask while you're in hospital. I was on paracetamol, ibprophine, dyahydracodine (i took for 16 days in total) oramorph (3 days). Buscipan helps with gas pain which they can also give you. Peppermint tea definitely helps and it's always on the troll when they come around. Laculose is great, they may send you home with some but if not it, it's not expensive and tastes a bit like honey. Take chargers, your own pillow and for the wait to have your c section some form of entertainment. I had an emergency c section and while I was being induced I overheard they were only on 2 out of 6 planned c sections at 4pm because they had, had a lot of emergencies

I had a c section under general aesthetic, I had gas but it wasn’t to uncomfortable lasts a couple of days. I agree on the lactulose make sure you ask for it really does help with going to the toilet and helped me with the gas. Do not over do it and keep up with your pain relief. Wish you all the luck with your c section

I did not take Peppermint Tea or Lactulose and I was totally fine! No pain in my shoulder and went for a number 2 just fine xxx What I would warn about it shortly after my c section I suffered a lot from Haemorrhoids - so be mindful this could happen xxx

Advice for Me is take as many pictures and videos in theatre as possible xxx

I had an emergency c section and didn’t get gas or shoulder pain, I was constipated after tho that’s probably about it for me 😅
