Day to day newborn care

Hi guys, I love this app and all the support. This might sound crazy but my newborn is 6 days old and I just wanted to check what we should actually be doing with him day to day? We of course feed (breast feed), change nappy, sleep, sing with him, lots of cuddles. I was looking at advice of how to top and tail wash him like the best technique and the NHS recommend doing it everyday! I feel so awful that I hadn't washed my babies face everyday and now thinking about it, I wash my face everyday so why would his not need to be?! So got me worrying if there's anything else I should be doing daily that I'm not; should we be playing with him yet? Tummy time? Thanks 🥰

I have the same thoughts!!! But newborns JUST sleep and feed. It’s okay if you don’t want the baby everyday, just wipe them down with a baby wipe or a cotton ball with warm water. Don’t feel guilty or bad, unless they vomit on them selves or have a big blow out, they’re not exactly dirty or have odour. They recommended 1 hour of tummy time a day (not at once, 10 minutes) but even if you do 5 minutes 3x a day that’s okay good. You can talk to your baby, use flash cards that are black and white which they will track with their eyes. You’re doing amazing, you’ll be fine xx

Don’t feel bad, I was exactly the same! I didn’t wash him for over 2 weeks 🫠 and I only just started tummy time this week. He’s 3 weeks and 3 days old 🤪 no one tells you this stuff, and tbh we’ve just been surviving. It’s only in the last week I’ve even bless the brain space to think about tummy time anyway! Xxx

@Daniella okay great thanks! I feel better now! So would they recommend tummy time this early? I'm excited to start it with him xx

@Vicky oh great at least it's not just me I thought I was the only person in the world not washing their babies face haha! Xx

My girl is 9 days old and just feeding and getting her sleeping is a challenge. I haven’t bathed her either and know I need to. The “tummy time she gets is putting her on our chests and having her look around.

They do yes, to help strengthen core and neck however we’re just surviving the 4th trimester so don’t feel guilty if you only do 1 tummy time a day.

@Daniella okay thanks daniella, will give it a try! Xxb

I was told not to bath my daughter till the cord fell off, which was day 9, but didn’t bath her till day 12 as was too scared to do it myself and didn’t fancy leaning over the bath after a c section sooo she waited till yesterday. I’ve not done tummy Time because again, getting on the floor with her to get us back up again, I don’t feel ready for so she lays on me, moves her head around and eventually goes to sleep so I can move her into the next to me

@Elizabeth I've had a section too and worried about getting on the floor, well I just know I can't. But I'll get my husband to try him and I can do it on my chest. Thanks xx

we've done tummy time when we need to burp him so he just lays on our chest or for skin to skin cuddles while we try to settle him at night time. I've only done a cotton bath twice to give his hands and face a clean and im planning on trying a proper bath today but do worry about upsetting him with the water just gotta be done 🥺
