Itchiness and blood results

I had my 38 week appointment with midwife on Monday and I explained to her how badly I’m itching all over (body feels like I have rolled around in stinging nettles) she took bloods to test me for cholestasis. I had a phone call this evening from the community midwife who has confirmed one of my blood results have came back a bit high and have asked me to to go triage tomorrow for further blood tests. I will be 39 weeks on Sunday. if the readings come back high again what are the chances of them inducing me? Can I request to be induced early? For anyone who doesn’t know cholestasis in pregnancy is to do with kidneys and liver and let’s of a bio or something that can affect the baby so I rather my baby to be born A week early and be safe then stay where she is and be at risk. I had the same condition with my son 15 years ago but wasn’t diagnosed or tested for it and was left to go 15 days over due with him.

Chances are they will try to induce, if you go over your due date it could always have an impact on your liver function quite fast. If you don’t want an induction you could be monitored but it’s depends on the hospital x

I think it will depend how high your levels are? If they are only marginally high they might not do anything as your so close? Not quite the same, but I got OC at around 33 weeks but it has since gone away. I’m 40 weeks tomorrow and there was never discussion of induction. Has your pregnancy been relatively straight forward otherwise? Are baby movements okay? If yes to both, there’s a chance they might just let you go naturally but I guess if your want to be induced you should push for it

I had cholestasis in both pregnancy, first time, they found out at 32 weeks and monitored weekly, I got induced at 39+1, they planned it from 35 weeks, second time they found out at 37 weeks and 7 days later elective c-section, I would say you have a high chance of being induced by end of next week. As they explained both times they will try to keep the baby in till 39 weeks if your results are not too high, but they think it’s beneficial for baby to be born earlier than full term. To give you some ease, both babies were all good 😊 and straight after delivery the itching stopped both times. Good luck tomorrow, and ask whatever you want to know!

@Nikki I have to go today for more bloods. I am 39 weeks tomorrow so I will be pushing for induction when I go today so they can get me in the next few days to start me off. I rather baby to be out here and be safe than stay where she is and be at risk. I had the same itchiness with my son 15 years ago but I wasn’t tested for it and was left to go 15 days over my due date I will not be fobbed off. My whole body is scratched up from scratching so much (belly is worst) thank you for the information hun xx
