How long did it take for your LO to outgrow their laryngomalacia?

I’m dying for my bby girl to get better. These gasping spells are terrifying. What symptoms did your LO have that warranted surgery?

My son had mild lm, didn’t require surgery. He grew out of it at 6 months, after seeing several specialists. Is your baby’s lm severe?

I haven’t seen any specialists so I’m unsure what severity a physician would consider it. I am thinking it’s more moderate because it’s not “just squeaking when she eats”… she gasps for air after eating she can’t tolerate nursing and she has difficulty coordinating her suck/swallow/breath and will have stridor with retractions.

Yea my son was similar, we eventually got a swallow study done and had to put rice in his milk to thicken it. That helped tremendously with choking and with reflux. We also got on Nexium for reflux. Where do you live?

@Breanna Kansas City. I’m a speech pathologist and after consulting with some other SLP friends in feeding/swallowing I decided on the same plan. I’ll start a thickener. We’re already on famotidine. It should help. What age was your son when he grew out of it?

Oh that’s awesome you have those connections! Nexium was the only thing that helped my son. He was only 6 months when he graduated from all his specialists.

Did anyone else's baby sound really weird maybe hoarse not sure how to describe it when they cough on milk. Like when ny little one really coughs it sounds rough??

@Kayleigh have you done a swallow study? When my son would choke it sounded very wet. To me, sounding hoarse is a dry sound? Is that what you mean?

@Breanna yes I would say it would sound Dry. Like when we have a chest infection out chest sounds rough and bubbly hers sounds like it in her throat when she coughs if that makes sense 🙈 No swallow study has been offered and it was the doctor who mentioned the 'flap' called laryngomalacia

@Kayleigh it’s possible she could be aspirating and I think it would be worth asking for a swallow study. Might even have to push for one, but it’s better to know and adjust her feedings than to ignore it. We ended up having to thicken our sons milk
