Has anyone already signed their baby up for a nursery?

I am 35w and it might be too early to think about this, but I’ve heard mixed answers from people who have already secured their nursery spots even before they’ve given birth. When is a good time to sign up for a nursery (I don’t plan on sending my baby to nursery until end of 2025)? I am based in London if that changes anything!

I’ve heard waiting lists are long. I’m not doing the nursery route but have sorted a childminder for next year

I have because I have a child in a childminder currently and I want to change him when this baby needs childcare too

I signed my daughter up to her nursery before I gave birth, and have signed this next baby up for Sept 2025 since April. The nursery rang me last week to confirm hours for Sept 2025 as they were getting full for then already. I would do it sooner rather than later.

Yeah for an April/ May start :)

I signed up back in April as nurseries around me have over a year waiting list so needed to be organised! It may be worth ringing and asking local nurseries so you can get an idea of waiting lists :)

Yep, my nursery of choice gets booked up SO far in advance so we signed up in May for a July 2025 start. I’m not London based so you may have more choice where you are

I’ve got my little ones name down to start July/august 2025. They were the next available spaces they had. They definitely all seem to be quite full, I’d suggest doing it soon x

I’m 36 weeks and on the waiting list for a nursery to start in July

I'm in Kent, managed to secure a slot for next summer - helpful to start early:)

Omg 😳 But if baby isn’t born what are you signing up? X name? Do you have to pay a deposit to secure the space or anything Oh dear another thing I haven’t done yet 😫

Yes, I couldn’t get my daughter in until she was 18 months old so I signed baby up as soon as possible so we didn’t have that issue

@Dee they took baby+surname in our case and yes, we paid £100

We signed up in April and took the last space for Sept 2025 in the nursery we chose

@Dee nursery just put our daughter down as Baby (then surname) like @tugba and we also paid a £100 deposit. This time as my daughter is already at the nursery we haven’t had to pay a deposit for baby no.2

I registered at 20 weeks as it’s very very competitive in my area. This is for Sept 2025 start xx

@Dee we put “baby” as first name with our last name and can change it later. We haven’t put a deposit down but already have a child at the nursery, but otherwise we would have. With my first I was in London and registered her at 3 months old to start at 1 year. Xx

Thanks ladies 😊 I better start researching!

I have signed them up to nursery, my two year old is already in nursery so wanted to make sure that he could get a place in the same nursery as places are very high demand but didnt need to pay a deposit as my sons already there
