D&C for retained pregnancy tissue

I had a D&C yesterday for retained pregnancy tissue after failed medical management. It’s been nearly 3 months since I found out my baby didn’t have a heartbeat. I did not expect this to take so long and feel so deflated. I’m so ready to try again and once I’m recovered and allowed to I plan to start trying. I’m just looking for any positive stories of conceiving after a D&C

I’m wondering if I’m in the exact same position now….how did you find out that you needed a second d and c if you don’t mind me asking?

I had 2 D&Cs and then my HcG didn’t drop very quickly so I had to go back for weekly blood test. It was so hard and like you it was so deflating as it was taking so long. I find out I lost my baby in the July 2021 and then I was finally discharged from hospital in October 2021. I then got caught in January 2022 and had a healthy boy in the October 2022. I didn’t put any pressure on myself with “trying” me and my partner just enjoyed our time together and we were very lucky it happened really quickly! X

I would also love to hear positive stories !! It’s been 2 weeks since my 2nd D&c and tonight will be our first night back trying !! Very excited and hopeful it happens soon 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I chose the medical option first which mostly worked but had left over tissue. My pregnancy tests have stayed faintly positive the whole time. I had a scan and they seen there was 3cm of pregnancy tissue left in. My first D&C was cancelled because I started my period and they made me wait two weeks to see if it came out naturally but got rescanned on Thursday and they confirmed it was still there and had the D&C yesterday. I’ve been testing every other day in the build up to the scan and the faint line never went away

@Isabella got my fingers crossed for you! I plan to do the same. Can I ask if you’re planning to track your ovulation or just going to try and see what happens?

I have a 1 year old who I conceived first try, then for my MMC I had this month I also got pregnant first try both without tracking ovulation so I’m hopeful it will happen fast I’m so determined to have another one soon so I probably will track ovulation after my first period if I’m not pregnant before 🫣 I was so excited to have 2 under two and loosing this baby unexpectedly at 12 weeks has been a shock so I feel like having another pregnancy will help me heal as well as all my family who have also been really shocked by my recent loss. I know I am very lucky and to have gotten pregnant so fast and have a healthy boy already however it doesn’t change my sadness over loosing a baby and wanting to try and try for another x

Sorry for you loss ✨ I had to have 2 d&c’s one in November when we initially found out we lost the baby and another on 3rd January due to retained products I’m now approaching 6 weeks pregnant. My periods started of light so I was quite worried but with each cycle they got slightly heavier I fell pregnant on the 4th cycle trying 🌈

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Apologies if this seems insensitive or personal to ask (you don't have to give me an answer but something to think about) but did you agree to the histology testing on what they removed in the d&c? I had a D&C last April at '12 weeks' after waiting 4 weeks for my body to pass naturally. Testing showed a partial molar pregnancy and I was monitored to make sure HCG dropped. Molar pregnancies can bury deeper into the uterine lining so more easy to have retained tissue. Luckily I didn't have to have a second D&C (I have had 2 but the previous one was 15 years prior). I was pregnant 3 months later, the cycle that started the day I tested negative HCG on blood test and I now have a sleepy 6½ week old on my chest.

@Carys oh I didn’t even think to ask for the testing. Never even heard about that before. I will have a look into that, thank you.

I'm not sure where you are but I'm in the UK and the hospital have to bring it up and ask as I had to sign a form to agree to it. They basically said its to check they removed what the said they would remove but it meant they found it was molar tissue. I'm not sure if it's different if it's retained tissue though xxx

I’ve had 2 D&Cs total, one being in October 2021. I gave myself 3 months to heal, tried again in the new year of 2022 and found out I was pregnant at the beginning of March 2022 💗 my little girls now 18 months old. If you’re in the UK, the NHS will scan you early if you’ve had 2 miscarriages and you have concerns x

I've just had failed medical management and am currently on a wait and see approach to see if the rest of the tissue passes naturally (not my choice). it's been 4 weeks since we found out we had a missed miscarriage. It's so frustrating as we want to try again and everything feels so slow, so some of these stories are really helpful ❤️

@anon what country are you from? Just curious because you said it wasn’t your choice .. I was given multiple options and told it was 100% my choice whatever I wanted to do would be done. I opted for D&c and then 2 days later offered medical management and told it was the best route however I insisted on a second D&c and they did it the following day as I didn’t want to wait at all I needed it to be over in order the start healing and moving forward. Just make sure if you want something done you push for it to happen as it’s your body so no one else can decide what’s best for you xxx

@Isabella I'm UK and I was given the choice initially and went for medical but when I was rescanned on Tuesday and told I had tissue remaining I wanted to go for the surgery to speed up the process, but the doctor wanted to wait another 10 days to see if it passes naturally. I'm now 4 weeks into the process and it's so draining. I definitely need to get better at advocating for myself in future I just didn't have it in me to argue. If I'm unlucky and have another miscarriage in the future I would do things differently xxx
