Kindergarten

I was wondering if moms who have older kids can explain kindergarten to me. Born 9/20/21 and so idk if he can go only when he turns 5 or if he can attend when he is 4 and soon turns 5. And do most schools do half day for kinder? I worry it will be too long of a day if not.

All depends on your school district I suggest checking the school website/calling

Depends on the district. For the district we are currently in the child has to be 5 by December 31. But where my mother lives and where I was considering to move the child has to be 5 by September 1st. My daughter was born September 8th. lol so I’m one district she’s fine the other she would have to wait a whole year because of a 7 day cut off 🤪

Yeah it just depends on location, but our entire state quit doing half days sometime between the the late 80’s early 90’s to ’15 when my oldest son started kinder. He’s also a Sep baby, the age cut off here is Aug, but since he’s so close I could’ve gotten him in at 4 about to turn 5, but chose to wait that extra year bc I didn’t think even a 5yo had any business sitting in a classroom for the same amount of time as a high schooler.

Just like others have said, it depends on your state and what birthdate they have in place for starting school. But, I wanted to mention some other things… - Some people choose to hold their child back and start school a year late. - Kindergarten is not required, so you could skip it (just make sure you are doing enough at home so he’s not behind when he starts 1st grade). - If it’s an option for you, some private preschools have a kindergarten class, which might be a shorter day and/or have nap time.
