@Marina hey, thank you for this! Yeah, all the positions and holds are a struggle!! We have not had a successful latch yet, he gets so frustrated & screams! Have you gone private for these appointments? Xx
Hey mama, I found this very helpful https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=41fC0fQs1P8 Problem isn’t you! It’s tough for you both to get to grips with latching, we struggled a LOT in the beginning (also have very big boobs) xxxxx
Hi, I just want to share my personal experience. We were limited in funds to see a lactation consultant, but my doula gave me a temporary way tk help baby latch-- I used silicone contact nipple shields (these: https://www.medela.com/en-us/breastfeeding-pumping/products/breast-care/contact-nipple-shields they come in different sizes so need to measure) and my baby used that whenever she was nursing... until one day around 6-7 months she just took it off and started latching all by herself and I haven't needed since.
i had this same issue! no tongue or lip ties my boobs are just way too big for her to get her mouth around in all positions sitting up, i found the side lying position the most helpful
Hello I have big boobs and it can make breastfeeding difficult but it is possible. For a long time I rolled up a muslin and placed it under my boob to lift my boob up. I use the ‘flipple’ technique as this encourages baby to open their mouth wide to latch on so they take more of a mouthful of breast and the nipple is further back in the mouth, therefore improving latch. Might be worth watching some YouTube videos on this. I also found the rugby ball hold a good option until my daughter got better head control. Please find a local breastfeeding support group to support you 😊
@Bea yes, it’s £120 for 90min for this one in Hove. Apparently neck tension etc can make them struggle to open wide and latch properly, you can get seen by a paediatric osteopath for less but this one will also help me with feeding positions and latching, the others just help with baby’s tension etc. idk! I hope they help me. I was never able to properly hold her the way they were recommending either, with only one hand, I felt too weak and like my arms and hands were too small even though I don’t have a big baby. While she feeds i always have to be holding my boob. It’s annoying but we’re kind of used to it now.
First couple of weeks can be so tricky, you both learning a new skill. You are doing great, and it will get easier. Have you tried laid back feeding position? It can really help with latch as makes it a lot easier for you to position you breast and nipple for a baby without holding your breast all the time. Have a look in case helpful https://cambridgebreastfeedingalliance.org.uk/photos-of-laid-back-breastfeeding/
Thank you everyone, I really appreciate the support 🩵 xx
Hi! I have an appointment with an osteopath + breastfeeding consultant soon, but basically have had the same issue since my baby was born in august. She has a very shallow latch but doesn’t have a tie. All the positions for breastfeeding that they kept trying to push on us at birth did not work for us because of my breast size and shape. Once we got home we found our ways, but even though she has gotten bigger, her latch has stayed the same, causing her gas and other issues. I did wonder for ages if it was just my anatomy making it difficult but now I am hopeful that the osteopath will help us, she could be too tense to latch properly apparently? She just wont open her mouth big enough and just got lazy and used to this shallow latch I think.
