Newborn diarrhea

Is very liquidy soft, diarrhea like stool fairly normal for newborns? Baby boy is a week old today. I breastfeed and started supplementing an ounce of formula as well after feeding sessions two days ago now based on pediatrician recommendations Im worried it could be from using lanolin on my nips but they are so cracked and sore and painful, Im trying to keep them from scabbing too much. That or bowel movements like this are just normal for them? Or maybe its the formula? Asking here bc it doesn't seem dire enough yet to go to pediatrician, he's eating and sleeping fine so Im trying not to over worry. added: speaking of lanolin as well, any breastfeeding mama's use lanolin with no concern? i know its supposed to be safe for baby, i put it on after feeding not before, but am worried too much could hurt his belly

Newborn poo should be soft and liquid, like a korma curry!

Hi, my newborn is 3 weeks old and his poo is exactly the same too. Just very liquidy with some grainy texture to it and yellow like mustard. It's completely normal. No need to worry mom. You're doing great

Breast milk is so easy to digest that it comes out like that. You may see it thicken a little with the addition of formula but it shouldn’t be too solid. More like play dough. Formula produces a more solid poop but not solid like your poop. That could be a sign of constipation.

Hi, I am a breastfeeding counsellor! Lanolin is safe for breastfeeding, no need to worry there. Poop also sounds normal. The fact that your nipples are cracked and sore, and you have started to give top ups so early, suggests that some good quality breastfeeding support could really help you. It is likely something as simple as a tweak to your position to get a better latch. 95% or breastfeeding issues are down to latch. Look up your local La Leche League or other breastfeeding support group and seek some trained support. X
