Should I be concerned?

I have a three year old. He started 3k September. He’s very smart in the sense of him knowing a lot of things and he remember. My concern are that his communication is not there. He doesn’t express himself. I also have a 2year old who’s very vocal and speaks complete sentences and can have a back and forth conversation. I find that he doesn’t have a back and forth dialogue, & when we do have conversations he’s off topic. I spoke with his teacher about this and she said She also notice he’ll lose interest really fast, I don’t mean he’s not communicating completely. He does! But it’s the dialogue and expressing himself. He plays with other kids fine. He plays with his sister and talks to her. We spoke about getting him evaluated but should I be stressing this. Is he too little ?

Hi, if you’re at all concerned I’d bring it up to his pediatrician so they can do a speech/language evaluation. Even if it’s just for a peace of mind. I had my 2 year old evaluated because I had concerns, but he ended up score above average on the evaluation. He’s 3 now & doing well. Most of the time, it just depends on the child, each develop at their own pace. My daughter is an opposite of my son. I think girls language skills develop first.

Early intervention is a good thing. It can help him develop those skills and help you understand how best to help him. But if they do diagnose him with anything, I would make sure it doesn't become a crutch. I know people who are autistic and incredibly functional but would rather use it as a crutch. As someone who's not officially diagnosed, but many teachers and counselors suspected I am, but my parents didn't believe I needed the diagnosis, it's frustrating as hell to see it used as a crutch. I do wish I was diagnosed as a kid though, it probably would've been beneficial, but as an adult, I don't see the point now.
