Preschool advice

Please know I post this post from a genuinely caring place wanting to know how to navigate this situation. My child was a preschool today and they had a visit from a local school with children who have many different disabilities. Today my child met a beautiful little girl who had quite a pronounced facial difference. Unfortunately it really scared my child, to the point of tears. I’m heartbroken for the little girl and also my child. I’m absolutely lost at how to navigate this. If anyone has any advice I would be really grateful. Please be kind x

Normal to be scared of different and the unfamiliar- however, this age is THE best age to start talking about how we’re all unique. Knowing that sometimes it’s things we can see on our bodies, other times it’s things we can’t, sometimes it’s what our families are like, where we live, what we eat etc. that nobody is exactly the same and that’s what makes us amazing! And importantly, that everyone deserves to be treated with kindness. Lots of brilliant picture books, toys and other resources out there to help as well.

@Chloe thank you 💕 am going to look into some reading books now 💕 xxx

My little boy watched a paralympian on tv a while ago which sparked a big conversation about limb differences, he was so interested when we started to look up disabled athletes, so if there’s something she’s interested in, perhaps see if there are any differently abled people that do it that you can show her as well?
